I've said it before and ill harp on it again - Monahan and Toffoli last year did nothing but mess with our chemistry. I think Arniel sees how dynamic our lineup is and hopefully keeps this apparent to Chevy. I wouldn't mind a 2C but at this point I'm leaning more towards "Don't fix what aint broken" because if we trade a first + a prospect for another 2C and the chemistry isn't there we are shooting ourselves in the foot.

2nd line in the past 6 games:
67.5 HDCF%
66% xGF%
60 SCF%

Only thing I want before the deadline is a d man.

I don’t think Monahan messed w the chemistry. I thought he came and fit in very nicely. Was a bit surprised he didn’t extend with us but 5 years was too much for where he’s at.

Toffoli, yes. Or maybe that combo of both of them which you may have meant overall, yes I can understand that

I have been trying to think what the Jets will do at the deadline. I wouldn't doubt they add a D man but its likely a depth D. Not sure if they go big game hunter but Chevy will make the big move if he feels it will make us better.

Looking at our UFAs. I think they bring Ehlers back. Iaffalo walks, great soldier probably cost too much. Same goes for Appleton. Names they resign, useful toolkit player, won't cost a ton. I think Pionk resigns and spends the rest of his career here. There is a solid partnership developing between him and Samberg and they will then sign Samberg to a long term deal at a friendly number.

Bigger issue will be if they can sign Vilardi long term. I hope so. You got some in house replacements in Lambert,Chibs and Ford for the guys that walk and Salo is close on D.

They would be set to repeat or be close to what we are doing this year with most of the team back and Helly in net. They have some quality depth ready to play for the Moose next year with Yager,Barlow.Jacob and likely Lucuis returning. Some quality in that last draft with He and Walton really having big years. Its looking ok from a organizational depth perspective.

So what am I saying? I think they don't need to do much of anything. They tried that last year and it failed. I think stay the course with this group and let them know you believe in them. If not figure things out in the off season.

I hope we can keep Gabe. Sweetest mitts in the league and he’s finally having a healthy year so far - he’s been so aweosme

He seems to have embraced the team since he felt slighted by LA trading him last year (my impression given his reaction in the la trade videos). He’s got it pretty good and indicated earlier this year as much - top line, pp1 unit on a hot pp, not super far from his home in Ontario…he’s also still young and is going to just get better so locking him up would be great for the team. He adds a fantastic dynamic.

It would also be nice considering laine and pld didn’t want to stay w the team to lock down the key asset that came from that sequence of trades

I do think we could use more scoring depth and some better D though - playoffs are a different beast

Thats a bit of the concern at this deadline... its a trickle down effect - Monahan and Toffoli bumped guys down the lineup and we lost our checking speed in the bottom six - which our system really relies on... then add that we had a really defined checking line - and it ended with lines 2 and 4 not being optimized...

That’s totally fair

But

Let’s presume there’s finally an equivalent to stastny 2017-18 at the deadline available

Do you do it? I lean with gravity towards yes

I agree with this. I just don't see a center being available that would be a big enough upgrade to justify the cost.

I think there are more quality dmen in the market this year.
I would be ok with big game hunting for RHD this year. Put that player with JM, Move demelo down with a depth LHD acquisition who can replace Stanley. Having Miller as a #7 would be solid imo

Alex Tuch would be a great addition.

hard no...thank god Farabee was dealt to calgary.

Tuch would be very nice.

But if Tuch leaves the buffalo area it will be 100% against his wishes. Buffalo doesn’t have a lot of top end players who would have to be dragged off the team kicking and screaming, so I can’t imagine them willingly moving on from him unless it involved a Mcdavid or MacKinnon type of player where they would have to force him to get on a plane in such a fashion, bouncers et al.

(Honestly I wish Jets had some elite winnipeg area born players who had that much of a desire to play for their home town for a multitude of personal reasons …imagine if Seth Jarvis forced a trade to winnipeg and never wanted to leave?)

TNSE's major investor is a real estate development fund... they assessed the Winnipeg market and know what they are doing. I'd be surprised if they haven't scooped up almost all of the downtown for a song... and once they hit a critical mass - and a critical mass of govt support - then they develop...

Problem is that within that business model - its hard not to see that selling the Jets for $2 billion is a sound move once you've developed your properties downtown.
If Chipman sold the Jets whoever buys it would probably move the team and all those newly built buildings would then be vacant again. The Jets and concerts are the only reason people go downtown right now. I remember when they at least had a bunch of bars downtown to draw people down there but the kids nowadays don't like to physically interact with another person they do it all online now.
