Based on what I’ve heard, I don’t expect Ehlers back next year. Despite his underlying numbers, underutilization, and the projected cap, I don’t see a world where Chevy offers him more than the $8.5m Helle and Scheif received. Rightly or wrongly, I think they play hard ball, set that as an internal figure, and Ehlers will be able to earn more elsewhere.

Similar to the Copp situation, I suspect we’ll look to move him (maybe alongside Perfetti, our 1st, and/or prospects?) to target a long-term C option and dman.

If BUF could negotiate a deal with Nik, I’d be looking to get Cozens and Byram/Power for Ehlers, Perfetti, 2025 first rounder, and any prospects not named Lambert or Salomonsson.

In the summer you re-sign Vilardi, Samberg, and Pionk and you’d be running this lineup next year:

Connor-Scheifele-Lambert
Namestnikov-Cozens-Vilardi
Nino-Lowry-Appleton
Barron-Gustafsson-Kupari
Chibrikov

Morrissey-DeMelo
Samberg-Pionk
Byram/Power-Miller
Salomonsson
I'm fine with that trade but there is no way Lambert is a first line winger at this stage in his career. Would much rather keep Vilardi on there with the chemistry he is having on that line.

If SJS selling today ill take Walman
Walman would be a great add! Was hoping he'd be one of those listed of potentially available defensemen in Ates column in the Athletic which dropped this morning.

Nope. The list was pretty uninspiring with 10 players listed playing significantly under their contract value. In the comments one poster wrote "this list is the defense equivalent of that DVD bin at WalMart with titles like AirBud 2 and Universal Soldier."

David Savard, Ivan Provorov, Seth Jones, Rasmus Ristolainen, Cody Ceci, Ryan Lindgren, K'Andre Miller, Brian Dumoulin, Mario Ferraro & Connor Murphy were the featured players.

I think you guys are dreaming too big. I expect Chevy to get someone big but big in size like Luke Schenn. More toughness is what is needed for that first round win.
I don't know, I think you have to go big this year. We are in first place, we already have a decent prospect pool so we can afford to spend a 1st, we have tons of cap space and we have the Ehlers situation. Go big or go home! And I don't just want a rental this year.

What do people think about Lambert for Bjorgstrand?

Connor - Scheifele - Vilardi
Ehlers - Lowry - Bjorgstrand
Niederietter - Namestnikov/Kupari - Appleton
Perfetti - Kupari/Namestnikov - Iafallo

Kind of wasting Perfetti but dang that is a good 4th line.
I think you could probably get Bjorkstrand with a 2nd/3rd rd pick and maybe throw in Levis. The Cap Hit for production doesn't fly off the radar.

Definitely not the type of player who commands a top prospect in return.

No Trade protection would be the big obstacle with him and Oleksiak.

If that $8.5M isn't enough for Ehlers to sign, then I agree. This will more likely than not be his last year here in that case.

Still think it makes a lot of sense for that 8 year, $8.0-to-8.5M deal. $64-68M total.

That would be equivalent of a $9M+ AAV for any other team offering 7 years.

I agree about going big. I just think targeting players with trade protection isn't something that's generally a realistic option for Chevy.

God I hope the Jets make better decisions than reading Evolving Hockey stats for player cards.

Agreed. I'm hoping Chevy stays away from pure rentals and is willing to go big with a hockey trade.

I like that trade too.

i do want to add I'm not sure its realistic to expect Ehlers to agree to a sign-and-trade with Buffalo just to make sure we get the maximum trade return for him... while we are simultaneously getting rid of him... he can just play it out and pick his spot in the summer

It's definitely not realistic, no way in hell Ehlers agrees to sign with Buffalo, I still believe Chevy will offer Ehlers the Scheifs/Helly deal (maybe 500K less) and he will accept, I don't see other teams offering much more and only we can offer him 8 year term.

With the current fiasco down in the states and the fact Ehlers is a Dane that's played his entire North American career (Both in CHL and NHL) in Canada, maybe he'd be open to a sign and trade with the Sens? Sens really need a high end skilled speedy winger to play with Stützle.

If you're Chevy, you can't make a deal like that when your team is performing the way it is, as it is

You look for an option to upgrade 3LHD (maybe even 3RHD) and look for a centre in for the middle 6 if one is available

Any type of hockey trade has to wait for the offseason

As for Ehlers, I think there's an opportunity to deal him for a 1st and a replacement roster forward (who obviously won't have the same impact he has)

Usually the teams that trade for rentals are the ones looking to win it all but I think that there are a bunch of teams that are within striking distance of a WC spot that would love to make the playoffs. If Chevy could get one of them to overpay for a rental Ehlers, I'm OK with that.

For example... Utah management would be thrilled for playoff hockey in that market in their first season. So something like:

Ehlers for 1st plus Bjugstad + prospect

Chevy pockets that 1st (mid to late teens) and uses the Jets 1st (late 20s - 32nd) to find another F that bridges the production gap between Ehlers and Bjugstad

CSV
Nino Lowry Apples
X Bjugstad Perfetti
Barron Gus Kupari Names Iafallo (some combo as 4th line)

Player X could be a rental, or a player with term who can slot into our middle 6 moving forward

Just to be 100% clear, I'd hope that Chevy could extend Ehlers as my first choice.... but if he's 100% gonna walk, this is an option to deal with it (plus we'd be upgrading our 1st round pick in June)

I would think the cost is a 1st+ roster player plus prospect. The Blues are pretty savvy when they move on from someone.
So a 1st, Perfetti and Solmonsaon?????
The Athletic had this to say.
Parayko has a career-high 11 goals with 31 games left. He has 100 shots on goal and is on pace for the most attempts he’s had since 2018-19 (162). Any team would be thrilled to have a player who’s logged the fourth-most five-on-five minutes in the NHL this season (1,032:13) among defensemen.

Not thrilled enough to give that up. People gotta stop trying to trade Salomonsson.

Sure, was just slotting him there for some balance between lines. Could be any other young/complementary player instead.

I just don't see why he would entertain any sign and trade whe he can choose where he wants to be in 5 months

lol you would trade anyone but Lambert and Salo? And then you would put Lambert on the first line? You are talking about the guy that has 3 goals in 30 games in the AHL all while playing top minutes and top pp right? Man glad you aren’t the GM.

There is a very good chance Lambo can’t crack the lineup again next year let alone him being untouchable and a first liner.

we moved copp because we were fighting for a wildcard spot... were currently fighting for the presidents trophy, really don't know why people expect us to trade ehlers especially after chevy's mid season interview where he says he wants to lift a cup with him

Not only that, he’s arguably the main driver for our historic power play right now

Imo it’s risky to trade him. Some tantalizing possibilities sure, myself I’d like to keep him but it’s out of my control if he doesn’t want to stay with the jets

Though while we have him, and have this pp, we might never see a team this good for years - I’m on the “hard no” side of wanting to mess up that top pp unit

I'd say the chances of the Jets moving a roster player in-season this year are pretty close to zero percent.

Wonder if Jets are interested in an Ehlers for Boeser deal. Both pending UFAs with chance they would sign with their new team.

Ehlers plays with Petey and Boeser solidifies a top 6 scoring RW for Jets moving forward.
