1st Perfetti and Salomonsson for a soon to be 32 year old D man?

I'm one of Chevy's biggest fans... and I'd personally run him out of town for that
Oh, don’t get me wrong. I don’t want that either. But the selling price will be in that range for the Blues to move him to some other team. The point was he can’t be had for less than a 1st and the cost is likely much higher.

That's equivalent to 3 first round picks. When was the last time ANYONE was moved for that?

I agree that his value could be more than 2nd +, but there's a huge gap between that and what you posted. There's also that pesky trade protection

With the new huge rise in the salary cap next year I think there will be lots of trades. Rangers wanted the Canucks to retain some of Miller's contact was the only reason the trade did not happen earlier ... $8 M contracts are a bargain now.
Poor Scheifele that's the second time he signed a contact before a huge increase ... well at least we know he is not greedy. Jets can actually sign everybody (UFAs) if the want too.

I don't know, but I guarantee Chevy has something cooking.
One thing about Chevy is that he's usually pretty good at setting his price and sticking to it

I think he jumped the gun with Monahan last year (maybe he wanted him for MTL'S 2nd) but saw that the C market was getting depleted and offered the 1st just to get it done. Maybe he filed that under "lesson learned"

I would think the cost is a 1st+ roster player plus prospect. The Blues are pretty savvy when they move on from someone.
So a 1st, Perfetti and Solmonsaon?????
The Athletic had this to say.
Parayko has a career-high 11 goals with 31 games left. He has 100 shots on goal and is on pace for the most attempts he’s had since 2018-19 (162). Any team would be thrilled to have a player who’s logged the fourth-most five-on-five minutes in the NHL this season (1,032:13) among defensemen.
There is no way Solmonsaon is getting traded unless he does not want to play for the Jets.
I would bet 99% of the GMs when talking to Chevy ... the first jets prospect brought up is Solmonsaon. I would have said 100% but there is always one dumb GM.
Also Parayko's contract is affordable now for the Blues with the new SC increase so I would not be surprised if the keep him.

I don’t see him moved unless there is an overpay.

He has 4 more seasons at 6.5.

Exactly, and Chevy rarely (if ever) overpays in a trade

I seem to remember there being smoke around Chevy being interested a couple of years ago, but I don't see it now that he'd be overpaying for probably the worst years of the contract

I think our internal cap. Yes there will be one, will prevent us from spending $104-113.5M in a couple years. So there will be lots of crunching numbers for Chevy to do, sacrifices will be made, but I still trust he can build a competitve team even with a midrange budget

I wonder how Samberg and Erik Karlsson would look together..

If he came packaged with someone else from the Pens (wink wink), I'd consider absorbing that. There's some movement in Pittsburgh ownership (maybe sellers know about upcoming movement with the roster), they've made a point that Crosby is unavailable (which could mean just the opposite), I don't think Crosby minded staying in Pittsburgh, provided that they're at least in the hunt for a playoff spot. Even though the Penguins missed making the playoffs the past two seasons, they were right there both times.

Now he's looking at three more years of not making the playoffs? That's how he wants to go down? Missing out his last five years? Malkin's cooked.

On the flip side, the Penguins - I would imagine - would have to be greatly considering liquidating what they have, and go into rebuild mode. There's little chance of a transition where they integrate their prospect pool with their veterans, because their cupboards seem to be bare.

Crosby could also return to the Pens in three years, for a swan song, helping a younger core on his way out the door.

Everything is in place in Winnipeg for Crosby to make a push. Maybe Karlsson would be rejuvenated coming to competitive team. I hate his contract, I'm not crazy about him, but he's only got two years left, and I'd imagine Pittsburgh will only consider moving Crosby if they can also dump a contract like Karlsson's.

Pittsburgh might be wanting to help Crosby land in great situation too, for all of his great years and loyalty, also he'd be moved out of their conference. It's not like Pittsburgh is that much of a step up from Winnipeg too. I imagine Crosby would like to be in a place where he has all of the time to just focus on hockey.

Dare to dream

Probably amazing. Karlsson is on the long list of guys with trade protection though.
EK65 is an aging lazy defenseman with an 11.5m albatross contract, good offensive talent but I have never liked the defensive side of his game.

If we could him at 50% retained then sure why not, paired with a reliable D man like Sammy I am sure it would be a good pairing, doubt they will retain that much on him though.

If you want to play with structure, that's not your guy. 0 need for him.

I'd rather have Byram, who has a future, skates better too. But the Jets probably don't have the assets.

So far Dallas, Minnesota, Colorado, Edmonton and Vegas have already taken their 2025 1sts off the table. Leaves just Winnipeg, L.A, Cgy (2), and Vcr with 1sts left among contenders in the West, and the latter could still be a seller.

I knew Chevy wouldn't react first. Puts him in a good position with the competition, and still some interesting names that could surface.

If I were Chevy I'd be asking these questions about anyone I'd be trading for... even a rental

1. What kind of person are they
2. What kind of teammate would they be
3. How would they affect the locker room
4. Do they actually want to come here and be here

I think that the rumors of Toffoli being reluctant to come last season kinda showed on his on ice performance. Not only that, but the leadership group is made up of guys who have chosen to be here by signing long term contracts

Based on what I’ve heard, I don’t expect Ehlers back next year. Despite his underlying numbers, underutilization, and the projected cap, I don’t see a world where Chevy offers him more than the $8.5m Helle and Scheif received. Rightly or wrongly, I think they play hard ball, set that as an internal figure, and Ehlers will be able to earn more elsewhere.

Similar to the Copp situation, I suspect we’ll look to move him (maybe alongside Perfetti, our 1st, and/or prospects?) to target a long-term C option and dman.

If BUF could negotiate a deal with Nik, I’d be looking to get Cozens and Byram/Power for Ehlers, Perfetti, 2025 first rounder, and any prospects not named Lambert or Salomonsson.

In the summer you re-sign Vilardi, Samberg, and Pionk and you’d be running this lineup next year:

Connor-Scheifele-Lambert
Namestnikov-Cozens-Vilardi
Nino-Lowry-Appleton
Barron-Gustafsson-Kupari
Chibrikov

Morrissey-DeMelo
Samberg-Pionk
Byram/Power-Miller
Salomonsson

There are never any guarantees about the cap. All it takes is a world event that tanks the economy for a period of time and all of a sudden you're back to cap stagnation. Scheifele and Helly signed for fair value at the time, and in Scheifele's case he has pushed contracts to the point of giving him a 18 - 20 year career and $110 M+ of career earnings. Ultimately it comes down to how good these guys are with their money after they get paid that separates who actually becomes rich post playing career.
