I really like your examples/suggestions, and I appreciate your response.

I'm not particularly well versed with other team's defenseman (other than the biggest names out there), at least, compared to what I knew of them in the '80s through to the mid '00s. I generally line-up the most with your thoughts - as you see it and how you articulate what you're seeing - on our team's defenseman, which is why I had asked you.

He still has another year under his current contract (2025-26 at $3,250,000), which I like at that price. Can you see him potentially displacing Dylan DeMelo as Morrissey's partner?

He's a UFA in 2025, and is making almost the same as Ferraro. I like that he had experience with those Penguin teams that won in '16 and '17, his size.

A quote from The Hockey News (.com):

"The aspect of his game that is most surprising has been his ability to absorb or slip forecheckers and make crisp, undisrupted first passes out of his zone on breakouts."

"I think my biggest thing is breakouts," Dumoulin said. "Just being able to be clean and not just rim pucks but also make plays, try to create odd-man rushes, and be able to create an exit out of the zone that isn't just a high flip or a rim. I want to be able to create something where if forwards are fresh, they can get on a forecheck."

I like this, because this was a glaring problem in last year's playoffs. What pairing do you see him on?

He's also a UFA in 2025.

Do you see him as someone - based on his age and that he's from Minnesota - who Chevy could sign beyond him just being a rental for the playoffs?

Funny enough, I read someone's comment on a Rangers' board:

love the way he plays however i would not resign him for a big deal due to his high injury risk. Would love to see rangers pick up a guy like brendon dillon who is a free agent and brings plenty of what they are looking for in physicality grit and toughness around the net.

Do you think that he's not being properly utilized in New York?

In this scenario, do you still have Perfetti playing on the same line as Ehlers?

I didn't mind what I saw with Lowry playing with Ehlers in their limited run together. I also think maybe the Jets should juggle the 2nd and 3rd lines more often, based on matchups. I think the 3rd line (the traditional Lowry line with Appleton and Niederreiter) can get dull over the course of the year, and it could probably help stimulate them by playing on different lines, in different situations, with the idea that in most match-ups, they will revert to playing on the same line most of the time.

That's also to say that the Perfetti/Names/Ehlers line would get worn down if they only played together. That line is too small, but they do get getting match-ups, and they don't play heavy minutes compared to a number of other 2nd lines.

Names looks much better since coming back from injury (overlooking that he's been productive on the scoresheet), as does the line itself.
Short answer I'd have every one of those d-men start 3rd paring with Miller. And to varying degrees they could move up with an injury. Ferraro with Morrissey would require Josh to play his offside conceivably, but it would be better than moving players who are 3rd pairing above their weight class.

And for Laughton yes I'd put Ehlers on Lowry's line and split them up, because those two as a winger combo have had a lot of unproductive games together, and might be vulnerable to tighter checking. Have him with Perfetti, maybe Namestnikov stays in the middle, but it's little more physicality, a guy who will scrap, and who has leadership. He's described as the glue of the Flyers room. Which I don't know the Flyers suck but I am not sure it's because of Laughton.

However if the Jets wanted to go more traditional I think he's a more physical player who could fit between Nik and Cole.

he's been fine this year for someone that comes in once every 5 games and again his record would be better had he had goal support... if helle goes down nobody we can get is going to be close to him and were screwed regardless, comrie has put up league average numbers which is all you can ask for in a back up
Comrie doesn’t have goal support because the bulk of his starts have been on the second half of back to backs. It’s as simple as he’s playing behind an exhausted group.

I read earlier this week that Comrie’s’ weighted stats place him 18th overall among goalies.

Was checking out a few of the trade targets on The Athletic player cards. Obviously subjective but they are a easy summary of what one model says about them. Nothing more than that, but i like them because of the simplicity of summarizing everything into one value akin to AAV.

Petterson is rated as a $6M value. This guy is rated as a bona fide top 4 D that a contender will likely pay more for if they are weak at 2LD than we will for him to play 3rd pair for us. Would be a big upgrade on Stan for 3rd pair though.

Dumolin, Ferraro and Lindgren actually rate lower than Stanley ($2.2M) so im not sure its much of an upgrade.

Nothing definitive but figure this can add to the discussion.

Good old xG analytics seeping in. Maybe the Pens have a good Corsi because they play from behind so much. Do you really think Pettersson is worth $3.5 more than Braden Schneider, because that's what the cards say? Lmfao.

I thought parayko was the best defenceman In the blues game the other day. Right handed and imagine he wouldn't cost a 1st. Feel like he's a guy who would thrive in our high paced system.

I tried to say that I don't agree or disagree with all of it, I've watched none of these guys play.

Just saw these guys all mentioned in the last page or two and took the time to look them up, see how they compare to Jets defensemen they would potentially replace and share for people who may be interested.

Whatever value you put or don't put in these is up to you.

I did see that on JFresh player cards Petterson was 90th percentile overall, basically top pairing calibre. It also has him as 87th percentile specifically in PK. Athletic has him 77th percentile PK.

I think being a Team Canada's defenseman he would cost more than a 1st... agreed though he would be great.

Man, players who I was hoping Chevy would be in on are getting plucked up... Frost, Chytil, Pettersson, Granlund....

I'm thinking that veteran players without trade protection are sometimes asked if there's a market they'd prefer if more than one team is in on them

on the bright side that could take out another potential team in on nelson if he becomes available

What do people think about Lambert for Bjorgstrand?

Connor - Scheifele - Vilardi
Ehlers - Lowry - Bjorgstrand
Niederietter - Namestnikov/Kupari - Appleton
Perfetti - Kupari/Namestnikov - Iafallo

Kind of wasting Perfetti but dang that is a good 4th line.

I would think the cost is a 1st+ roster player plus prospect. The Blues are pretty savvy when they move on from someone.
So a 1st, Perfetti and Solmonsaon?????
The Athletic had this to say.
Parayko has a career-high 11 goals with 31 games left. He has 100 shots on goal and is on pace for the most attempts he’s had since 2018-19 (162). Any team would be thrilled to have a player who’s logged the fourth-most five-on-five minutes in the NHL this season (1,032:13) among defensemen.

1st Perfetti and Salomonsson for a soon to be 32 year old D man?

I'm one of Chevy's biggest fans... and I'd personally run him out of town for that
