I think Namesntnikov still has several good years left in him. And being Russian he can ease Chibrikov's adjustment and gradual improvement as he settles into the big club.

Though how you improve on a goal per game pace is hard to imagine.
If anything it feels like Namestnikov is playing his best hockey of his career in Winnipeg

I mean Cozens is 6'3 and prob hits 200lbs in a year or two

Have to be careful - McLeod is shooting at 20% this year and Cozens at 8 and they are tied for points... neither of those is sustainable

I dont think he's available - but he's one of the top targets I'd go after
imo it's moreso the contract. 40m dollars remaining is a large bet. granted he's young, shown high upside in the past with 30+ goals a couple years ago. 47 pts last year wasn't great, but when the team lead is 59 strikes me as there wasn't much offense to be had. he just might have the buffalo stink.

even ristolainen has been noted of playing much better once out of there. then there's guys like reinhart or montour too.

I would gamble on that - just listened to Locked On Sport - Dylan Cozens (don't worry it was while I was getting other shit done haha)

Sounds like a shooter who's in Cole Perfetti too hard on himself mode - he's not a defensive center but Winnipeg system prob helps that

That being said, Tuch is the gem on that roster if there's a sell off - he's another Nino and has an extra year at a good cap hit - thats a guy I'd give up our first for and a good prospect

Tuch would certainly be an interesting player to trade for. If he were to be available, you have wonder how quickly a 28 y/o American with a M-NTC would take us out of the running.

Would love to trade for Granlund at the right cost. Over a point per game, exactly the type of player that should mentor Perfetti.

Cody Ceci, RD, 30y, going into UFA next year, you think the sharks will move him?
He is a big RD that could pair with josh on the first pairing.

I hope the Preds are stupid enough to let him go. He's still a terrific hockey player, and I doubt he'll have a stark drop-off any time soon given his play style.
He’s still terrific on faceoffs which the Jets could always use improvement in. I’d be interested.

Myself I would look at the depth chart like this

Connor-Scheif-Vilardi (hot and cold)

Nino-Lowry-Ehlers...Appleton to me is the only player that doesnt make that a true 2nd line. And I'll add that Lowry going forward into his next contract will likely look to be a more prominent player, no matter where he plays, because he's battling with the best and winning a lot of battles night in night out. And a lot teams need that kind of player. And we have him as our captain.

Perfetti-Namestnikov-Chibrikov (IMO Cole looks best when he plays with another finisher, and Chibrikov is all finish, Ehlers and Lambert are more dash)

Iafallo-Kupari-Appleton, the kind of line you trust in a defensive zone draw to get the puck out of the zone, Kupari is maybe the weakest on the boards of the 3, and that's where I see room for improvement. Maybe that improvement is Namestnikov and Chibrikov and it balances out.

If Ehlers isn't pigeon holed he has the potential to move up on that top line when it needs a spark, and maybe Vilardi moves around, and Chibrikov too.

Barron-Gustafsson-Lambert would be my replacement level line. Cozens beat Lambert in a neutral zone race so I think he can move pretty well. Lambert won't get a lot of rope at C in a veteran league on a playoff hungry team, but I could see him being effective in the same spot Appleton is in now. Game is easier to play when you have workhorses on the boards.

I do think C is the number one position of depth needs for the Jets until the Yager bomb arrives. But if the Jets want to reward Lowry for all the hard work, I'm not sure another $7 million center makes it easy to manage the roster going forward. Although replacing Ehlers with younger wingers seems more possible than it did last year.

Mc Leod is an excellent penalty killer, he showed that in the playoffs last year, I like that option a bit more at a better price.
I like Chib as much as anyone, but he's not even in the same stratosphere as Ehlers, and I hope he is one day. His early scoring is great, I love his tenacity and if he scores consistently in the NHL then we have a real gem.

To me, he's probably a 3rd line guy with finish that can play the 2nd pp. If he's more than that, what a pick up he was.

I would make a move for Hampus Lindholm or similar player, who can play with Josh.

Doesn't solve the size issue with that 2nd line. Which becomes a possession issue (not measured in shots).

Namestnikov is a better defensive player than Granlund. I think you might want to replace that defensive game with offense to some extent but not with worse defensive play. Namestnikov is kind of the glue holding the wingers together.

I honestly think the Jets under Arniel are trying to become a team that can win 2-1 games so I am not sure how much offense the Jets are looking to add. Especially trying to find room for offensive players like Chibrikov in the lineup, without tanking the defensive side or the more important special teams side.

Yeah I keep plugging Lowry as a 2nd line player because he and Nino are outscoring the 2nd line 5 on 5. But truth is the 2nd line probably is what it is, what it was with Ehlers, and Chibrikov is down the depth chart.

I'd be surprised if Lindholm is available from the Bruins. Carlo maybe and I am not sure what he is as a defenseman. If the Bruins make the playoffs be looking to add not subtract, so that's a tough one.

I think the Jets are looking for a defenseman. How important probably is incumbent on how well Melo plays with Morrissey over that time. There may still be hope that he finds the game that worked to make that pairing effective last year. Because I think that was the goal to start to build off existing chemistry in the top 4 and experiment on the bottom pairing.

Injuries will definitely be a factor.

^^^

I feel like they can solve some of the size issue by trying Kupari there. He has speed, physicality, decent F/O prowess, a ton of persistence and good enough hands to dig out and distribute pucks and sometimes pot one.

Seems like a line in need of a complementary player who doesn't need to match up to the skillsets of Ehlers/ Perfetti but do some of the work for them, especially with P's improved board play etc.

I really like Names, and think he's keeping his head above water and doing what he can as a forechecker and distributor, but Kupari might bring an edge and speed to keep with Ehlers while leaving Perfetti some extra space.
