Yeah it's weird how people feel about Monahan as a Jet. I thought he was pretty solid.

I think he was solid, just didn't make us all that much better than Namestnikov.

This is my perspective. Monahan and Toffoli caused demotion of Namestnikov and Perfetti. Monahan helped the PP but I'm not sure he was worth a 1st since Namestnikov has been pretty effective.

That's true, Perfetti got demoted before any trades. The writing on the wall became clear once he was on the 4th line.

Hopefully we can just let him play through it this year. He was not one of the players who struggled, when he did get in, against the Avs last April

Arniel is not looking like the kind of coach to ice any player early in the year. And it will be interesting to know what his input is as the Jets get closer to the deadline. He's got to work with a lot of these players through camp. Does he want to see Lambert, Chibrikov and Salomonsson on the team when the rosters get expanded after the trade deadline? Jets have the Cap space there.

I think Chevy should avoid a pure rental. He has some talented depth with pro experience in Salomonsson, Lambert and Chibrikov. If he wants to add, it should be a player with some term (like Nino), or a pure hockey trade to add a top-end 2C or top-4 D.

Nobody outside the 1st line (plus Morrissey and Brendan Dillon) scored more than 2 points. And they got caved in by Colorado's top line.

Chevy needs to keep his 1st pick, hasn't really worked in the past with the exception of Stastny. Promote from within

I don't separate Samberg's success from Pionk's and they have been unquestionably the Jets best d-pairing this year. Pionk leading the defense in ES points is a testament to that. Arniel is a Pionk fan, going back to coaching him in New York, so I think he's safe, and probably extended.

But I agree with the first paragraph. You do wonder if Salomonsson could be more efficient than Melo, and quicker too. So the depth is there, in house, before you go looking elsewhere.

That 3LD spot is probably the one where you are not sure what's there. Heinola may win the job, but he's a complete unproven in the playoffs, where Stanley and Fleury have some playoff experienc.e. I think Stanley makes a lot of people cringe, but on home ice I think he can be used effectively, on the road I am not sure he can protected. And special teams get bigger in the playoffs so I think there's a need there, that Fleury in particular could fill, if he finds a comfort level with the team.

2C is a position the Jets shouldn't be trading for if they believe in Yager, or Lambert to fill those holes next year. The cost of a 2C in the NHL is generally high, as previous trades have indicated. For rentals Granlund is the only one who has no trade protection, and I am not sure he would be any sort of answer to improvement. Namestnikov and Ehlers have chemistry. Perfetti is still trying to fit in on this line, and he needs some playoff experience. I really wonder about plugging Kupari in the middle of Ehlers and Namestnikov, and that becomes a line you can play in every zone, so that Ehlers gets more impact in the playoffs. And maybe you plug Barron in the middle of Iafallo and Perfetti in a more limited 4th line, Or trade for a second tier player to fill that role. Or promote Lambo.

Term players come at an even higher cost than rentals, if they are impactful (Poile did Chevy a solid with Nino) and I am not sure the Jets have the trade capital anymore. Can't put all your chips in every year in the playoffs. Last year was costly for 3 home games in the playoffs. So I agree that Lambert and Salomonsson should be on the playoff roster this year, and there is the cap space to get them regular games after the deadline, where you could start to use some load management.

Or if we knew for certain that Ehlers is gone after this year, maybe allocate his cap hit to Norris from Ottawa - of course the cap hit, term, and injury history are scary, but it might make him available for cheap in terms of trade value

If the Jets get a v good 2C and Yager or Lambert are good enough, then there's the option of moving Lowry down to a terrific 4C as he ages.

To be fair Iafallo, Namestnikov and Perfetti were quite good together last year.

Personally I’d still try using Barlow as a trade chip to improve the defense. Sure he’s scoring more now, but I don’t see him as an integral part going forward.

Wish they’d add Stanley to move him out, but I don’t think that will happen. Because of this, I can see Villle being thrown into a package with Barlow.

Stanley at best should be #8, Fleury #7
