Hi gyus, coming in peace to get some insight from you.
What do you think would be the asking price for Elias Salomonsson? I really liked what I see from him, but I am sure there are 32 teams in the league who like his profile. Thanks

Jets are thin on defense prospects as is so it is very unlikely (pretty much zero chance) they’re going to trade away their best one. They’ve been looking for a RH defenseman with his skill set for years and finally drafted one. They’re going to develop him and he’ll eventually slide into the top 4.

He is our best D prospect and a RHD to boot. Pretty much no chance Chevy even considers moving him unless he gets some ridiculous good offer.

I legit think they would never trade him. So whoever your best young d man is plus multiple 1sts.

Thank guys, so I am not the only one who really likes him :)
Great prospect, it is great to see young D who can play both sides of rink. I guess nobody is ready to heavily overpay until he is NHL proven. Great pick for you, good luck.

I doubt they move Salo. He has developed and trended in the right direction at every level since being drafted and is looking like a solid T4 defender. He adapted to the NA game tremendously well and is producing well in the A on a shitty Moose team.
It would cost a lot to get him but would probably be part of a bigger deal for a current T4 RD or 2C with term.

Seattle may have to make a move to free up the cap space to activate Vince Dunn. They will surely put Eberle on LTIR but I'm not sure that move will free up enough space, if it does then they will be operating right at the cap with limited flexibility. Thier top 4 of the future is pretty clearly Dunn, Montour, Evans, and Larsson. That leaves both Oleksiak and Borgen as potential targets that would actually need to be moved sooner than later. I can see Chevy being interested in either player Borgen has the lower cost likely just picks. Oleksiak is probably a pick plus a prospect. Jets are one of the only for sure buyers with cap space this early in the season so there could be limited competition.

Seattle is still in that race. In a league where defense matters wouldn't be surprised if they are still giving the Oilers, Flames and Kings a run in January/February. You can always dump Cap hits on Columbus and Pittsburgh will take them too, especially once they clear out a salary.

Or maybe Seattle tries to get to a Toronto and Vegas level of cheating the Cap.

Only thing that maybe moves the needle is someone who is already what we hope he will become and unless a player wants to get off the team, teams generally aren't all that eager to move guys like that. Ideally it would be someone around 25-28 who is an established piece. Those kinds of players usually don't make it to market unless they are rentals and I wouldn't be moving Salomi for a rental.

Jiricek on the move?

Yes please.

It seems like he's struggled pretty heavily. CBJ fans say he is hard to work with. Thinks he deserves to be in the NHL despite not really doing much yet. I'm guessing if he's moved it will be underachieving prospect for underachieving prospect type deal of similar age.

Zegrus from the Ducks would make a lot of sense I think

I think the ask for him was pretty steep. He definitely would be a huge boon to our 2nd line. Plays with speed and a young enough RFA that we can sign him long term and not regret it.

I'm not sure what moves the needle for Anaheim but I'd imagine it would be something we wouldn't want to pay.

Sorry, I was thinking for CBJ for Jiricek

I'd offer Ehlers and Stanley for Jiri and a 1st in 2025 or 2026...their choice.
Not sure why Ehlers would want to go to Columbus or why Columbus would trade for Ehlers? I think it would be very unlikely he would sign with a team in rebuild mode when he is just about to become a UFA and able to see what the open market has to offer. Columbus would probably just do it to flip him to a contender at the TDL, so they would never give up more in a trade to the Jets now, then they could get at the TDL.

Right, I was thinking something like:
Matheson 50% retained- LD would hit 2.5M AAV this year and next
might be the starting point from Habs, but they would still need to add something like young RD prospect or pick and that is probably not what they would do for Salomonsson.

This might be a homer perspective, but, this is a homer page not general page, but, matheson doesn’t move the needle for me. It would have to be something mtl doesn’t want to give up to even get conversation started like Guhle. Which should end the conversation for mtl.
I don’t see jets trading for prospects or picks and the piece I want back has to be a heck of lot better than matheson to get conversation started. Essentially I’d want an overpay.

Matheson probably doesn't do it for us. I think we would prefer a RHD for RHD if we are making that move.

Yeah maybe. I think the Ducks would probably want more than a struggling prospect for Zegras.

I was more willing to move Ehlers before we started playing well. Now I want to keep him. He's worth more than most pieces we could get for him right now.

We may want to keep Ehlers, he may think otherwise and I'm sure the Jets have a good idea one way or another.

Yeah Chevy will know how he's going to approach this but I think Ehlers as an own rental has some merit this year. Unless we absolutely crater heading into the TDL then I think keeping Ehlers is the better approach for now. See how he fares in another playoffs and then we can figure things out after,

The problem of a self rental would be if the Jets bow out in the first round and Ehlers wont re sign, people will be very upset first and foremost about the playoffs and secondly watching Ehlers leave with nothing in return.
