2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

No idea how people afford that. I would think alot of people never get rid of a mortgage nowadays.

I want Ehlers re-signed , he's a entertaining player to watch but obviously there is limit to how much you give him. Let's remember , alot of people are pissed at our playoff record and Ehlers at 4 goals and 10 assists in 37 playoff games isn't helping with that. Again i want him re-signed though because he's a good player that's fun to watch play.
i agree ehlers needs to be better and produce in the POs. however, if he scores 1PPG last POs vs COL for example, it doesn't make a difference in that series as the entire team was awful. he was also a -1 at 5v5 so not like he got utterly dominated but ofc this is a player who is generally heavy in the positive. Like Hellebuyck he hasn't displayed that consistent regular season dominance in the POs. I think EDM was the last series for both actually where they were both standouts.

did you want blake wheeler re-signed by the Jets?
prior to 17-18: he had 27gp and 7pt in the POs for a player in the regular season who was playing at a 56 pt/82gp at the time. i don't think teams are basing multi-year contracts on a small number of games where a cold streak (or hot) can heavily sway PPG one way or the other.

i do think PO intensity does get heightened, i see Ehlers as more of a high rush/finesse offensive player but i don't think i would label him soft. he isn't going to be a garbage-goal guy (think PLD, Namestnikov), but i don't think he shys away from battling, blocking shots, playing with a bit of bite/edge at times.

When the Jets re-signed Scheifele and Hellebuyck, continued to trade futures for rentals, and held onto own UFA rentals like Ehlers, Iafallo, Appleton, Pionk, they were in essence going all in on the past couple of seasons and the next few. They can't really go half-baked now. All of the main contenders have core players on contracts that will age poorly. Draisaitl will be making 14M at 37, Rantanen 12M through 37. McDavid will be making 16M+ as a 38 year old. On the Jets, Scheifele and Hellebuyck will be 37 in their last contract years, and Connor and Morrissey will follow them.

In contrast to other teams, the Jets core players will be making 2/3 or less of the salary of other top contenders' stars. More importantly, in contrast to many other contenders the Jets can't just take the 7M extra from letting Ehlers go to fill the roster via free agency. They are also constrained from getting prime players on the trade market due to trade restrictions. Also, you gotta give to get, and the Jets' prospect and pick pool has been diminished by years of trades.

Now is also a different cap world than when Wheeler and Schmidt contracts caused problems... the flat cap era created a crunch, but the big cap inflation of the next few years will create more than enough space for a team like the Jets that thrives with depth of talent.

Ehlers is a luxury that the Jets can afford, so why not keep him?
agreed with this. the Jets have the 5th most cap-space in the league so not like they are extremely crunched, i really can't see any team offering ehlers 10m. contract proj. i've seen are in the 7.5-8m range & 8-8.25M i think is close to what he gets in UFA, and that falls right under Scheifele which was similar to their first contracts. definitely can see it playing out that way.

i've seen people brought up examples of Stamkos leaving.... Tampa can replace Stamkos with Guentzel, who is the high caliber fwd that the Jets are bringing in? Or a trade replacement: Vegas letting Stephenson walk with the Hertl acquisition. If the Jets continue with stacking the top line with CSV, in my view, they need speed and someone to produce chances and points offensively consistently on for the 2nd line. Prospects..... perhaps, but like you said the Jets are a win-now type of team. maybe they do that next year, but i wouldn't count in a prominent top-6 role and being relied upon to be drivers or produce like ehlers offensively. Definitely did not have the prospect infusion this year like many posters were expecting as Bowness moved on (other than a few gp during injuries).

How much of that cap space gets eaten up with Lowry, Vilardi, Perfetti, Samberg, Pionk, and Connor's next deals? Add Ehelrs, and it's getting up there. Those are all up between now and then end of next season.

Lowry, Vilardi, and Perfetti all have deals starting with a 3 right now, and are providing amazing value. Samberg is only getting paid 1.4M this year (wow). All of these guys are due for huge raises

I haven't crunched the numbers, but I'm assuming that if they all sign reasonable market-rate contracts, we should be good?

This is a similar debate as we had before scheif and helle contracts - i dont think anyone believed that both of them would sign at 8.5m... i remember talk of helle at 12 or 14 per year which he probably should be getting...

Chevy always pulls this stuff off - if theres a deal to be done, he will get it done...

I think that Chef and Helly both prioritize winning and want to have a winning team. They're both hungry for success - them taking a bit less allows for Chevy to build a more competitive team.

Also, the 10M+ goalie contracts are crazy... and even with high taxes, getting paid in USD to live in Winnipeg is a good deal.

Every person I know who has bought an $800,000 house in there swears to God that they can't smell the dump when there's a south wind but I don't know how that's possible
The methane gusts are real on any day exceeding 20*C. If we hold them to their words, I guess its possible that these folks may have wiped out their sensory neurons with heavy drink. Further, its difficult to smell things when your nasal passages are clogged with vomit.

That's what she said.

I'm sorry. I'll see myself out but it was just kind of hanging there.;)
