Rivermen Sign Four for 2024-25

PEORIA, IL – The Peoria Rivermen are proud to announce that they have signed four players, including three returners from last year’s championship team, to the roster for the 2024-25 season. Forwards Mike Gelatt and John Kaljian along with defensemen Chase Spencer and Renat Dadadzhanov have all signed with the Rivermen. All four have also signed ECHL contracts with the Bloomington Bison, Allen Americans, Tulsa Oilers, and Maine Mariners respectively. ...

Will be interesting to see how many players from last year’s Peoria squad make ECHL teams. Combined with Hagaman’s retirement, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them take a step back this season.

ROANOKE, Va. – As a new season approaches for the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs, the 2023 SPHL President’s Cup Champion Rail Yard Dawgs admit complacency set in last season.

“We know we fell short last year,” said head coach Dan Bremner during the teams recent media day.

“There’s only one team happy at the end of the year and it wasn’t us,” said forward Owen McDade.

With that, the team returns to the ice with a fresh mindset and even a new approach at the offensive end of the ice. Accountability and aggression will be at the forefront. ...

Birmingham Bulls to retire Jamey Hicks’ number at season opener on Oct. 18

The Birmingham Bulls will honor one of the franchise’s greatest legends before the puck drops on the 2024-25 season. The Bulls announced on Monday, Oct. 14 that the team will retire Jamey Hicks’ No. 14 jersey.

The jersey retirement ceremony will take place at the team’s regular season opener on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena as Birmingham battles the Huntsville Havoc in an in-state rivalry clash. Hicks joins Jerome Bechard as the only two players to have their jerseys retired by the Bulls. ...

PEORIA — Here comes the cavalry.

The Peoria Rivermen received a wave of players from ECHL camps on Monday morning that changed the outlook for their team in the early going. The defending SPHL champions (h)ave nine players down from Double-A training camps and could get more.

PEORIA, Ill. – The puck is about to drop on a new hockey season for the Peoria Rivermen.

The defending Southern Professional Hockey League champions start their 2024-25 season on Saturday at Quad City, before the home opener on October 25th against Roanoke, which will also feature a championship ceremony.

The Rivermen will feature a mix of veterans and new players on this year’s squad, but will feature a new captain. Former captain and Peoria-native Alec Hagaman retired after leading the Rivermen to its second President’s Cup in three seasons.

Forward Alec Baer, in his 4th season with the team, now wears the ‘C’ for the Rivermen. He says there’s “big shoes” to fill, but is ready for the role with the leadership around him. ...
