At least a little bit surprising to me, since as I mentioned in the Barracuda thread, the Cuda don't need a backup until Saturday and Wichita has three straight games from Wednesday to Friday coming up. But, the Thunder do have a third goalie on their roster that I just noticed, it's just that he's yet to make a single appearance this season.

I'm not watching Wichita or anything, but just a glance at their stats tells me Carriere's been outplaying Dell:
Carriere: 8 GP, 2.36 GAA, .930 SV%
Dell: 6 GP, 3.61 GAA, .884 SV%
They're probably just gonna send him straight to Canada for the 4 games so they don't have to worry about customs and borders n shit.

It could simply be for practice purposes as well.

If the return of Pickles is imminent, it might be.

Tough luck for Thompson. I hope he's back and in the Sharks lineup soon.

True, once Vlasic is officially back, that's a different story and Thompson may be the odd man out.

Right now I think Thompson just got sent down because we still need to carry three goalies until Vanecek's healthy. This transaction only leaves us with six healthy defensemen.

And I suppose with the team being at home this week until the weekend, and the Barracuda off and then at home, if anything comes up suddenly where they need another d-man, they can recall Thompson pretty much immediately.

I'm so excited for Asky to be back full time. Just the taste we got in the last week was incredibly fun.
You're right about him being an adventure out there. The one play where he went behind the net during regular DZ play happened so fast my dad didn't even see it... I said "holy shit did you see that? Askarov just played the puck behind the net."

Love his press answer about sometimes good sometimes shitty. Reminds me of this all time great Gattuso quote.

He's incredibly funny and entertaining both on and off the ice. I already love this dude.

He is obsessed with playing the puck, it's absolutely terrifying, but he's also pretty damn good at it. He's capable of simply stopping the dump and chase in its tracks, which really forces the other team to possess the puck and limits the forecheck's effectiveness.

I feel like Graf should have got the call this time.
Like it has been mentioned earlier, the one injured is a grinder bottom line player (although for whatever reason, is getting top line power play time and had been getting 1st or 2nd line minutes with Celebrini) so Caldwell fits that role better then graf. If Granlund continues to miss games also i can see graf getting the next call up.

I hope Graf is not getting bury into a career AHL man, like ANDREW AGOZZINO.
Sharks need to get Graf on the line with Celebrini and Smith soon.

Graf has played 20ish career Pro games. Cardwell played all last season and played well during his last call up.

Cardwell getting the call doesn’t say anything about Graf’s potential.
