"No" based on what. You can even waive a player and then dress them the same night, how're you going to do that if they're not on the roster.
You can. You can also assign them to the AHL before passing through waivers for the purposes of being roster compliant, iirc.

I don't want to keep going on about this (probably not an interesting topic for most people), but no, not like that. Let me use this article as an example:

Friday: The Utah Hockey Club has winger Kailer Yamamoto on waivers today for the purposes of assignment to AHL Tucson, the team announced. After he clears or is claimed tomorrow, they’ll have an open roster spot to activate center Nick Bjugstad from injured reserve, per Brogan Houston of Deseret News Sports.

Saturday: Yamamoto has cleared waivers, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports. The team announced he has been sent to Tucson.

Yamamoto doesn't just move to Tucson when put on waivers, he has to clear first.

All I'm saying is that we're likely to use a paper transaction (or just an outright demotion) to send Cardwell, Gushchin and/or Thompson down to activate Celebrini/Dellandrea, because putting the other guys on waivers tomorrow doesn't open immediate spots for Tuesday night. Gaucholoco3 had it correct, far as I'm concerned.

Unless someone can find something saying opposite, that's what I'm going to stick with.

I get the reasoning behind Goodrow and Kunin with Smith even though I don’t like it. The first 7 games Smith didn’t just look bad he couldn’t touch the puck. At this point the D are not capable of consistently breaking the puck out to the C so Smith needs puck hounds so he can get possession of the puck. He is not strong enough to gain possession without Goodrow or Kunin. More than players to connect plays with Smith he needs to get the puck on his stick to learn anything in the NHL.

Now hopefully Liljegren can help the D be more effective on the breakout. Ideally Eklund would be on Smiths wing but Eklund is ideal on every C’s wing and should be above 3rd line.

I’m ok with a few games with Goodrow and Kunin as Smiths wings if it gets him pick touches he needs to adjust to the pace of play. It just better not be a long term plan. I would also like to potentially switch Wennberg and Smith after a few games because Wklund and Zetterlund would be great wings for Smith.
Yeah, I was okay with it at first, but I've come around now--with Celebrini coming back and thus more top-6 depth--to thinking it's just not the right fit for Smith to play with two grinders. He's just too much of a possession player and those guys are just not very good at that--nor, as Jux pointed out, do they have the offensive IQ to play off of him in the way that would allow him to thrive.

I'd be okay still with one of the two out there with Smith (I lean towards Goodrow, since he has more experience playing with more skilled guys elsewhere) to do that forecheck and puck retrieval work, but I think Smith will continue to struggle to have an offensive impact with both Goodrow and Kunin. And I don't want him almost totally neutered in that regard since that's his calling card and clearly his confidence is very connected to having some scoring success.

I think Celebrini should go to the AHL for the rest of the season, no need to rush him back.

You're probably right but I could've sworn I've seen it before.

I quite like the fit of playing Goodrow with Smith as he brings forchecking, puck retrieval and defense that compliments Smith's deficiencies very well

I don't like Kunin on his line because he isn't good at anything

I feel like overstacking the top line like that does a disservice to both Eklund and Smith by not giving them enough talent to play with, it would be nice if we could see them get a little more creative with their lineups so everyone has some real skill to play with:

XX-71-73
72-64-20
21-2-23

The real problem is that were one top-6 forward short to make this work, none of Kunin, Dellandrea, Kostin, Guschin or Cardwell really fit in that open hole in an ideal way, because of that I'd honestly prefer we keep the 70s line intact:

72-71-73
XX-64-20
21-2-23

That's probably what I would run with for now

Those are the lineups I've been wanting for awhile now. It'd be a real shame to move Granlund to the wing when he's been so good at center. Whenever I tried to balance out the lines in a way that gives it good puck retrieval, playmaking, and finishing, the problem has been that our puck retrievers are too one dimensional. Sturm, Dellandrea, Grundstrom, and Kunin just aren't good enough players to move around the lineup.

I made a table of our players and which roles I thought they fit best in a while back just to help me mix up lines and I thought we had a good combination of playmakers and finishers but we continue to miss having great multi role puck retrievers. We don't have Timo or Hertl anymore who were excellent puck retrievers on top of being great finishers. And losing Eyssimont and Lorentz were probably low key crippling for us last year.

Anyways, I approve of your lines.

The one other line combo I had considered was

Eklund-Celebrini-Toffoli
Granlund-Smith-Zetterlund
Goodrow-Wennberg-Kunin
Grundstrom-Sturm-Dellandrea

These are the lines I want and ironically very similar to the first game. I would maybe switch Granlund and Eklund since I think Eklund might be a better pick retriever than Granlund. They weren’t given any time to see if it works since Celebrini got hurt after only one game.

I really can’t tell what’s a troll post and what isn’t anymore but either way, it’s certainly quite the take
Basically just joking, want Celebrini in the lineup. But know he is single handedly going to win us a few games to probably take us out of the running for the top pick.
