I'm thinking a lot of the reason is European ice rinks are bigger. So there's different training and systems where they spend more of their lives learning these techniques.Jim with an excellent explanation. I never knew how to explain it where North American players are so boring with their movement, and then you have players like Fiala and Kuzmenko.
"European players hands and feet move in different directions" Really well put by Jim. I wonder why NA hasn't caught onto that. That has such good utility.
I think the payoff in the NHL is huge though. I feel like being unpredictable opens up ice regardless of rink size. Its funny how they dont have that ability. You look at McDavid and he's not a deceptive player at all, but his edge work and acceleration loses the shadowing player easily. If McDavid had some European flair. watcccch out.I'm thinking a lot of the reason is European ice rinks are bigger. In North America, ice is smaller, and so there's more needed coordination to facilitate thinking quickly than moving quickly.
I think the Dmen who are good at it should do it. Anderson looked really bad doing it. Gavrikov and Doughty are great at it because they know exactly when to do it. Then you have a player like Anderson who does it pre-emptively and looks like a beer leaguer who cant read timing.I'm sick of the defenders going down like that.
As soon as I saw the game on the schedule, I knew...Kuemper's streak will probably end today, of all days.
