GDT: 2024-25 Season game 78 LA Kings vs Anaheim Ducks @7:00pm 4/10/25

Man

Rewatching all the highlights if I'm the Ducks coach I am absolutely REAMING them for their dogshit body language, literally every goal but the first Dostal and 1-2 players throw their hands up and look to the nearest ref

Take care of your own business and stop looking for the refs to bail you out on every single play, I get having a legitimate complaint MAYBE once a game if you're a C or A but especially if you're the G and can't take some ownership you're on a one way trip to permanent loserville. The moment I see a goaltender show up his Dmen or the refs is the moment I chalk the game up as a W, nothing positive happens after that. Lundqvist mentality is the opposite of Mamba mentality

4 games in 6 days to finish the regular season, then right into the first round of the playoffs. Good thing the Kings had an easy one last night.

I was thinking that last night. Ducks have done a great job of collecting talent but if they don’t find 2-3 glue guys this is gonna be a loop similar to Buffalo.

Losing begets more losing. At some point you just get used to the losing and have no expectation of competing. Rebuilds that take 4-5 seasons do not work. The Ducks have picked in the top 10 for six seasons straight now. Anaheim needs to pull out of the dive before the plane crashes.

Hopefully we can clinch 2nd place halfway into this stretch and then start resting some guys.

I really liked the 5 forward power play 1 line up. Looked like the Kings were moving it around super fast. You can see the 5 forwards form a tighter pentagon, making them more dangerous.

Defensemen, out of habit, like to play closer to the blue line, keeping making their shots less dangerous. I hope the Kings stay with this strategy.

some change would be good.
im glad we won.

What was that insane stat they mentioned about Kuemper? 15 straight games giving up 2 goals or less?

It matched some sort of record going back to the 1950's I thought I heard them say?

Anyways, he's 38-12-10 in his career as a King.
Its always been a good investment to own Kuemper insurance

Yup, the PP was a lot more compact than it is when Doughty is in the lineup, because Doughty never gets into dangerous areas. It really did look like a PP that other teams actually run.

My big knock on Doughty for most of his career is his game-sense whole great in all other facets, is just not good on the PP. I think playing for Murray and then Sutter and now with the Blake/Robitaille dead-puck style, he has just had defense first hammered into him so much that he doesn't take advantage of the opportunities that would come to him if he were more aggressive. That and the fact that he is old and alot of his offensive skill has diminished.

Kopitar and Kempe are all-world defensive forwards and Byfield is already pretty good and improving. They can cover for Fiala and Kuzmenko, who are both absolutely needed to maximize the PP.

It will be very disappointing if Doughty is back out there on the #1 PP unit when he returns.

I definitely think that was an attribute that was hammered OUT of Doughty because he was drafted for his offense even more than his defense (top offensive D award) and that improvisation that was such an asset at the junior level was reined in HEAVILY in his first few years. That piece of it is LONG gone, he focuses on predictability which is such an asset at even strength but such a detriment to the PP.

Doughty is wedded to his slapshot, which is from a bygone era when defensemen like Rob Blake could still overpower goalies. Same with Jordan Spence. Clarke seems to know that it’s not about how hard you can hit the puck, but where you place your shot. That’s why he is already a better power play quarterback than Doughty.

I wouldn’t mind if Doughty was on the second unit as a righty shot from the left circle.

To follow on for the 5 forwards points, me saying I don’t like it.

Whilst understand why you like it, I do prefer a D on the unit. They see the ice differently, will have better defensive reads; as much because the read is different between D (who are used to being the last man) vs a defensively strong forward. That said it needs to be the correct D man back there. So I 100% agree it should be Clarke. He offers something different, the X-factor I band on about.

That said it’s primarily about having the correct personnel first and foremost

It's kind of reactive to praise the 5 forward PP formation after that performance.

Ducks have the worst road PK in the NHL (69%).

I feel the same way. It worked the other day, but any respectable powerplay needs a quarterback.

5 forwards were able to expose a terrible PK, but a respectable powerplay, imo, should have a reliable blueliner to direct and manage traffic.
