GDT: 2024-25 season game 76 LA Kings vs Edmonton Oilers @1:00pm 4/5/25

We're really crowing about beating the oilers when this is their current situation?

Ok.

Im glad we won. I dont know how much of a measuring stick game that was against a team without 90% of tbier first line. No progress on the power play unfortunately. Onward and upward into the playoffs
It wasn't about being a measuring stick, it was about getting two points and distancing ourselves further from EDM. Pay attention, people!

Kings took care of business -- even if against a majorly short-handed team. Whatever...just win.

Big question is whether Edm is simply resting these guys in anticipation of the 1st round when they will be 100% and firing on all pistons.....or if they are truly hurt and will be going into the 1st round a good amount under 100%. Guess we won't know until the games start.

Other question is whether this Kings team can beat the Oilers even at 100% with Dri/McD playing.

Either way, looking forward to it all unfolding.

Ok.

This is really what I’m saying. There’s a lot of back patting over beating the Bakersfield condors.

I’m it getting too high about that game. It’s a regular season win and didn’t demonstrate anything new about the team that we didn’t already know. If anything a completely depleted Edmonton team game to town and outside the goalies roughly stalemated us. Yeah yeah “but we won” but like I said it’s about process not result with Edmonton and the process was ugly.

Sure maybe I’m reading too much into it and we are all playing chess now given these guys have played each other literally more than any other team in the last few yearsbut im looking for a reason to believe and I’m not getting it

you sure bout that?

To me these guys are in third until the absolute last second of the regular season passes and they’re not

I have no reason to believe this season is any different than the last three and I’m frankly kind of shocked at the pushback about that. We are exactly where we have been. Maybe even fewer points.

You expected something different than what you got. That's the only thing to read out of this because the Kings just easily won this game. Edmonton never threatened to control more than one shift at a time.

Pragmatism has its place in sports. You win the games in how they are presented to you. I don't see how anybody watching this game ever had the outcome in doubt. This isn't a fire and fury squad, you get control with flashes of brilliance from the 24-25 Kings.

Imagine, the team with the 6th most points in the NHL just shut out their opponent for home ice - while chasing a division title - in a game in which the opponent offered nothing significant and you are worried about style points?

A win is a win but yeah, I’m hoping for a better performance vs a team that completely owns the kings…whether it was physical pushback, totally shutting them down defensively, or scoring all over them, I would have been decently happy. Instead, they showed they can still push the Kings around and stay in control of the game without half of their squad.

It’s whatever, we will see how it looks in Edmonton in short order, and we can just hope i look dumber there than I do today.

I mean a win is a win but let’s not act like this means anything against a complete oilers roster in the playoffs.
You are wrong.

It means closer to home-ice advantage which equates to a better chance vs EDM in the 1st round.

Which means nothing if they don't actually win the series against EDM. Home ice will help their chances, but until they actually defeat EDM in the 2025 playoffs -- it's a TBD celebration. Especially since it was against the EDM b-squad.

Must win and they did it. So hats off to them. But you wake up the next day and it's just another regular season game/win.

Because in this game, style points counted, EDM was missing 4 of their TOP players, and sorry, that was a "barely won" game, not an "easily won" game, thats the issue.

Off sides negates anything that happened after that......so at 10:00 deemed offside, anything happens at 09:55 doesn't exist.
I'm sure that's contributory, but I don't think that is the way it "should" be. If a player sucker punches another player after the whistle, it's still a penalty. So, even if the play "never happened", a trip still occurred.

There's caveats to that, I am however too lazy to look it up.....but it's treated like this, so a goal is scored at 10:00, but no one sees it, Team B picks up the puck and goes and scores on the rush down at 09:50, that goal is cancelled out, time is put back on 10:00 play resumes,

Caveats for penalties I believe are match penalties and the like.

It was a good win. Got the 2 points, Oil got 0. Still doesn’t matter whether away or home ice. Let’s see how they play when the stakes are doubled and there’s extra pressure and extra physicality. Excited for the playoffs, but also anxious.

So lets say he got crosschecked in the grill on the play, and a match penalty was assessed, it would be nullified because of the offside too?

I can't see your quoted post BUT

This one is an interesting phenomena because the penalty would actually still be assessed

I suppose the theory is, like football, you can't just take a 'free play' like an offsides as license to kill

that was my understanding too. I guess it really would depend on the officials and how they read it. There are lots plays where guys go offside and the other team start something , with guys still getting penalties.
