GDT: 2024-25 season game 72 LA Kings vs Toronto Maple Leafs @4:00pm 3/29/25

Game 72, Hiller still hasn't gotten around to working on special teams.

0 for 3? On PP -1
Pk was better, but still gave up a goal
4v4 didn't allow a goal!!! May have taken a penalty on 4v4 that led to a goal.
EN goal

If I'm playing the King's in the playoffs I'm just running the team. The PP is just as likely to be deflating for the King's as it is the King's score. Two handed hacks & wait for the King's to eventually take a penalty or end up 4v4. I'd even consider cross-checking the King's center in the face off the opening face-off. Just send the message, we know your PP is crap & were just going to kick your butts because of it. 😂

Kopitar is having his worst season in terms of points per game since 2018-19, and it’s the third lowest points per game of his career at .80.

The Kings can’t count on him as a #1 center any longer.

Just based on where all the players are looking, its a high stick.

Based on where they are looking? Based on the angle of the f***ing stick, the toe is above his f***ing head, how they don't call that is a f***ing mystery.......it was a good game up until that point, you felt the energy just being sucked out,

Yes they need to work on their special teams, but they played head and shoulders better than in COL..

The Kings haven’t been able to count on him as a number one center come playoff time for the better part of a decade now.

He comes out the gates on fire, falls asleep come December and gradually fades into oblivion come spring time. The dude doesn’t have the gas in the tank anymore for 82 games plus a playoff run.

Kopitar is an NHL legend, first ballot hall of famer, and a lock to have his jersey retired by the Kings.

He also has been an aging 2nd line center for quite some time now, and recently has lost the ability to be a matchup center to boot. It’s sub-optimal for a team that’s sold its soul for some “just get in, and anything can happen” hockey.

Ultimately the kings lost for more than one play buuuuut, that high stick should have been overturned and because it wasn’t they also got a pp. Big swing.

You could see the team deflate after that.....not as much jump, then just...shit storm after shit storm, on such an OBVIOUS CALL....I hate bitching about the refs, I reffed for over 30 years, I know the shit that happens out there, but when you have video review and you still f*** it up, something is wrong....it was clear as freaking day....when LEAF fans are saying it was a f***ed up call, you know someone was drunk back in Toronto

He was stuck w Matthews line pretty much the entire game as far as I can remember
This is my problem with Hiller. Q needs to be the Kings leading scorer, but in order to do that you need to put him in situations that allow his offensive skills to flourish. It was a home game and the Kings weren't really generating good scoring chances, but instead were just pumping a good deal of shots on goal. This is where Hiller lacks offensive creativity and match-ups as a coach. Danault used to have a good skill set marking/checking the opponents top scorers. What happened with that? He should be the 3C, not 2C. Who is Q playing with to open scoring opportunities for him and what opponent lines is he being matched up against? Q is not Kopitar and never will be. Frankly I think Q's offensive upside is greater than Prime Kopitar was, while his backchecking will never be as good as Kopitar's.

Toronto review room wasn't drunk, as they were simply biased to giving the Leafs the benefit of no doubt in regard to it not being high sticking of the puck. Matthews had to look upward at the puck in the air to swat it. Plus he had to incline angle his stick above his shoulders to touch that puck! 100% high stick of the puck. I might add for a Saturday game, home or on the road, the Leafs have the biggest viewer draw for HNIC. Just something to think about there.

That goal by Matthews was clearly a non goal cause he touched the puck with a high stick previous to that and of course they call it a goal from the situation room in Toronto...a BS call if I ever saw one...it changed the whole complexion of the game

I did some Google digging. High sticking the puck is when a player touches the puck above the normal height of the players shoulders. Here is where the wording is a bit of a grey area, "normal height of the players shoulders". What Toronto Review room didn't clarify, was where Matthews touched the puck was still level with a standing upright players shoulders. That is what is considered normal height of the players shoulders. Quite frankly, I question that because when exactly is a player standing upright in the play of a game? Most players will bend their knees slightly for better skating balance or balance in general.

Also, I’m increasingly convinced that this team isn’t going to win anything until Mikey Anderson is off the team. He tries his best but he’s straight up Not Good Enough.

Losses sure bring out the best here on HFboards.
The Colorado game for sure was bringing heat on here but yesterday was pretty level headed. They played really well last night. Got hosed on a call. But that call was only a factor because of a special teams issue they refuse to address. Its an issue that really hurt them in the playoffs last year also.
But with your thinking you can say the same about wins also. Not that many days ago you were chest thumping and praising your idol Maclellan on the job hes done in Detroit and now they are on a skid and all but out of the race. You are a mirror image of those you ridicule.

To me he is a top bottom pairing Dman. Great defensively. No offense at all.

I really don’t think he’s great defensively. To me, Gavrikov is infinitely better which puts into perspective on Anderson. I think Anderson is a decent 2nd pair dman.
