I think you're mistaking correlation vs causation. While quality of a shot is important, teams are still wanting to suppress shots in general.

If the emphasis was truly quality of shots, you'd have the top teams with significant disparities in shots against versus shots for - that the top teams will allow garbage shots from anywhere, versus having a lower quantity but higher quality from their end.

Looking at five top teams:
Winnipeg - 28.6 shots for, 29.2 shots against
Washington - 28.5 shots for, 27.2 shots against
New Jersey - 30.4 shots for, 25.3 shots against
Vegas - 30.1 shots for, 28.0 shots against
Florida - 30.5 shots for, 26.7 shots against

Five bottom teams:
Buffalo - 27.5 shots for, 29.1 shots against
Chicago - 25.5 shots for, 29.6 shots against
Nashville - 29.3 shots for, 29.5 shots against
San Jose - 27.6 shots for, 32.8 shots against
Anaheim - 28.0 shots for, 32.3 shots against

Four of the five top teams have significantly greater shots against their opposition. The one who doesn't has a difference of .6 (or, over the course of 35 games, they have faced 21 more shots). Every bottom team has been outshot.

Yes, of course coaches are trying to do more than throw everything at the net, but the coaches aren't telling their players to limit their shots only to higher qualities.

That's 100% on the players for being too goddamn fancy, however, it is on the coaches for not nipping that shit in the bud and saying shoot, and crash, shoot and crash.....at the end of the night, no one f***ing cares how you scored, just how many. When I was playing, I'd shoot at players standing off to the side of the net and bank that shit in, didn't work all the time, but scored a few that way, got a few assists that way, I don't care, shoot the f***ing thing towards the net, crazy stupid shit happens and this team has forgotten that.

Every person has their own opinion. I disagree with your assessment. He was put in a wrong situation. He is not so much a lazy player. You think PLD is the only player that doesn't feel engaged when the team situation doesn't feel right!? It was up to the coaches to get be on top of the situation, and they failed. Let us not forget that this team ticked off Quick, handling the situation wrong. As of right now the team does not handle their players so well, except for Kopitar. This team has not been managed right after Lombardi/Sutter were gone.

Seriously just shut the f*** up about how wrong 4 teams have been about PLD.

we are entitled to feel as pissed off at the situation as we want--it's possible to be annoyed/mad with the org AND think PLD is a piece of shit for mouthing off after he got everything he could have possibly wanted. I would never begrudge CBJ fans for feeling a certain way about Carter, but you're here in every thread lecturing us about how we *should* feel and it's getting old.

What exactly happened last season? That he was gifted a nice contract, then coasted the whole season? Then implying that the coaches didn't do enough as an excuse for his poor play. Lol sure whatever. Best of luck to the guy, but i'm glad he's gone.

All the guy had to do was play like it matters in the playoffs, and his total shit-sandwich of a regular season would have easily been forgotten. But yah, he couldn’t even do that.

Why you so angry? Did I drop an f word on you?! No, so calm down. You are pretty much getting angry at a player that didn't work out that was Blake's fault to begin with. Thanks to the Caps, you completely got off the hook with his 7 years remaining on his contract and in return have a #1 goalie for 3 years, which allows Portillo to come along nicely.

I followed the jackets somewhat when he was there and the jets closely while pld played for them. Pld in columbus refused to be a team player under torterella. Flat out refused to play and totally quit on his teamates snd coach at ine point. Eventually was traded to winnipeg where his father is the coach of the manitoba moose and family nearby- seemingly an ideal situation for a frustrated and somewhat confused young player. He proceeded to go through the motions on the jets with no real buy in to the team or system and frankly looked bored waiting out his time to cash the big checks in his next contract.when he got to LA he got PAID mostly because betgevin finally got the toy hed been after in pld for years. Sweet pierre saw quickly this team and its martinet head coach were going nowhere and pld became the prototype young quiet quitter doing the bare minimum and saying all the right things. It was somewhat sick to hear him blame his lack of performance on poor and confusing directions. Soft play minimal responsibility and a general apathy makes me wonder how this loser ever was gifted being in the nhl in the first place.
Anywhere away from the kings is a good fit for sweet pierre

Some guys get a free pass around here, they get to say whatever they want, FYI.

Blake is a dumbass for trading Vilardi, not for acquiring PLD. However the pathetic performance by said player made Blake look way dumber than should have been.

Besides Blake messing up, so did the coaching as well. They did a poor job finding how to utilize PLD's skill set. The Caps did their homework very well(they had players and a coach PLD was familiar with), and that is why he's having success with them. TMac/Hiller both have similar coaching issues. They force their system on the roster(the system kills offense, hence one of the reasons why the Kings have challenges scoring goals), neither coach was a players type coach(something I feel this roster needs). It's been the same broken record since Lombardi/Sutter left.

It's pretty much become a tossup between Roenick and PLD...but tiebreaker goes to the opportunity cost of PLD for the players and contract.

Both total slugs that blamed everyone but themselves and mouthed off on their way out of town despite being given literally everything one could give.

f*** that guy. Was rooting for him, now would love nothing more than the Caps to start losing and expose the fraud.

I find everything you typed to be bullshit. These guys are supposed to be professionals…you are getting paid millions, you don’t need your hand to be f***ing held. If you do, you are a shit player.

First of all, a lot of players have had issues/complained about Torts. He's very demanding coach, but has softened up a bit in most recent years.

Jets I believe have had issues within their locker for years, so it just wasn't PLD. It really wasn't sorted out till having a new coach in Scott Arniel this season.

If anyone thinks PLD is the only negative standout of a player, then I have news for you that there are other players on other teams. The thing is some other teams find ways how to have management/coaches deal with or get those type of players in order. CBJ's, Jets and Kings failed on how to do that. Jeff Carter had issues both with the Flyers and CBJ's before he became Kings player. With Lombardi/Sutter, he got his act together. PLD could be a similar situation if things work out long term with the Caps.

In my opinion, I see some hindsight with some ppl on this board.

Wow, then I guess you don't follow the league other than the Kings! Caps had Kuznetsov who was a headcase and didn't always put his best skilled effort into the team. There are plenty of players in the NHL that need more hand holding then you might realize.

Ok, let’s use Jeff Carter for example. He didn’t get traded to CBJ and then sign on to a massive contract. He had a massive contract and was traded to a place he did t want to be. Huge difference, my man.
