Plenty of mediocre GM’s wind up making the best trade of their careers when Blake is on the other side of the table. Chayka, Cheveldayoff, Benning, Guerin, and Kekalainen are all considered lackluster to some degree and all have taken Blake for a ride, and usually do so even when Blake has all the leverage in the deal.

It’s a bit dude. Did you expect anything else?

Cheveldayoff with Vilardi, sure......the other four are debatable and I don't even think Chayka is the GM you are looking for....

Unfortunate part of this argument for you is that you can't use stat watching as an attack when trying to support Fiala. He's a stat watching all-star.

As for Minnesota, they aren't playoff fodder because Faber is the #1 defenseman: he's played one full season and they are eating a ton of dead cap space. He will be a major part of any future success they have and he's going to have more time to have success with them than Fiala will here in LA.

Also, just because you have a stud RHD already, doesn't mean having more than one is a bad idea.
The last time Minnesota had any kind of success was when Andrew Brunette scored the OT winner vs. Patrick Roy.

Its quite something to think they will have any success anytime soon. Heck, that they will do any better than LA with Fiala. Seriously, both players aside, than you are just not objective anymore.

Its incredible what Kaprizov is doing there but he is gone when he hits free agency. We should actually talk about him.

Except they are all RHS… but I take your point.

The question for me with Faber is around if he is actually a no1 d man or a number 2 playing the role of a #1. People saw Roy as a #3 but for me he was a solid but average #4 guy that, even then, only properly flourished in that slot when Gav signed.

I’ve not seen enough on Faber to have a valid opinion. For the record I was a huge Faber fan from the day we drafted him. I never predicted him as a no1 but IIRC a 2/3 level guy. I was ok with the trade or would have been without the 1st round pick. The rebuild had already ended too early so it was the right type of trade to make, in that context. It was always a question of which RHD was moved for more scoring.

You hit the nail on the head.

Right handed shot, numbers influenced by Kaprizov, lack of elite defensemen suddenly makes him a #1 defenseman.

People here buying it, okay no problem…but of course the usual suspects (not biggyking) just act like complete ****heads again. You can also say, that you disagree with me without the remarks. Dont forget $8.5M for 8 years on top of that.

Lose to the worst team in the league then turn around & beat the top team in the division. Not only beat them, embarrass their "star" players. When they get chippy, Mikey of all people steps up & puts one of the Knights better players in the quiet room.

That's how we play from now on! Right?
Hawks up next.
Don't blow it.

Not sure why you hate Minnesota so much...I don't even think about them. That said, I am being objective when I feel that they have a better chance of success with Faber through 2033 than the Kings do with Fiala through 2029. Basic math puts the odds in my favor regardless of what I think about the players since Faber gets more bites at the apple, plus he's younger and there is a good chance I get less effective Fiala seasons as he ages.

Will both franchises suck? History says yes. Regardless, I'd rather try to build with Faber than Fiala, the latter being a guy nobody has ever tried to build around because it is impossible to do so.

Is Faber getting an $8.5x8 deal seriously being considered a negative now? When he signed that deal I said that the Blake-stans were going to pivot towards saying Fiala is cheaper so the trade was a masterclass in saving money but I swear I was half-joking.

I haven’t seen anyone mention yet that Guerin had his hands completely tied and needed to trade Fiala because of his cap situation. Blake was GMing on easy mode just like he was with Winnipeg a year later and he still managed to produce…this.

You're simply not having serious discussions, especially when you call people ****heads, accuse them of stat and "Calder" watching, and act as if you're the only one who has ever watched him.

Just surprised you haven't thrown another tantrum at people liking each other's posts.

If you want to say the Kings HAD to trade Clarke or Faber, I disagree, but it's at least a talking point. Chirping about how he's "just not that good" considering his career path AND level of current play is just telling on yourself.

"rob completed half the job...i am with aeg on this aspect"

Did you get your sock yet?

I had to send you a triple xl!

In the era of Makar, and now Clarke, generating offense from the D is the #1's job.

Faber can be paired with a true #1 when they get one but he is not a #1 and is therefore overpaid.

I am glad we kept Clarke and Spence , especially for what we paid them.

In my shooting range scorecard we dodged the bullet for what Min paid.

Anyone saying anything else deserves to get a sock.

8.5 for a minimal offense defenseman socks the big one!

People who say they "are" or "aren't" good actually provide qualitative observations to discuss. Like "he protects the puck well" or "escapes pressure better than most."

You apparently didn't understand this when you said Clarke's plus/minus was bad thus he's bad at defense.

Provide reasons why Faber isn't good. I don't care about disagreeing opinions. But if you give bush league analysis, expect bush league discussion.

Agreed, but did he NEED to trade him to LA? You think LA was the only team kicking that tire?
