I thought for sure it was gonna be Lee that was sitting.

I'm so happy it's Lewis.

The team is so much more enjoyable to watch when you know a decision is being made based on merit and/or what's best for the future.
Akil is turning 25 in a couple of months. He's not exactly a rookie at this point.

For the Kings you have to basically deduct 2-3 years from a players actual age. If someone makes the Kings at 24 it's like making another team at 21 or 22.

That's why players like Thomas and Turcotte are often referred to as "kids" around these parts, despite by rest of NHL standards they are pretty old for rookies.

Probably takes Blake 30 minute to make a soft boiled egg .. prob has to constantly relight the burner since its barely on

In some fairness, not unlike Vilardi, Thomas had some injury issues where he missed months at a time.

Lewis will retire soon. It's fine.

Akil, there are plenty of guys at his skill level the King's can sign. It's unfortunate for Akil. He's got a shot up show what he can go against a bad Sharks team.

Also, Lewis has 2X the production of Lee.

Mid twenties right shot wingers on cost controlled contracts who bring some grit and physicality are easy to find.

Chronic shoulder issues limit grit.

There are plenty of guys on Akil's level available every summer.

If "merit" is your thing, Lewis wouldn't be even remotely close to sitting. He has outplayed Danault, Moore, Jeannot, Lee, and for all but maybe 2 periods Fiala.

I’m more interested to see if Akil stays in the lineup next game if he doesn’t score a goal or have a multi-point night tonight. Because this seems an awful lot like they’re only playing him to give old Lewis a rest on a back-to-back. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s back to the press box with him for another few weeks after tonight.
Akil will have a 10-point game and first thing he'll do is ride the pine the next game.

TBH, Andre Lee has not really been very good through the first 9 games. He’s got some size, but that’s pretty much it right now. Probably should head down to the A to develop other parts of his game.

Looking for Moore-Danault-Fiala to have some positive energy and impact tonight.

I still have no idea how he was not in the Kings playoff lineup last season. He comes in at the end of the year, he scores 3 goals in 7 games (for a team with garbage offensive players) while playing a sandpaper style with lots of grit and energy, and then doesn't see a single playoff game as the team goes quietly in 5 games? As Grundstrom and Lewis play every game.

This was not some 19 year old kid who just finished his sophomore season of college, he was a 24 year old fourth year pro with 140 AHL games under his belt. But still hadn't paid his dues or learned the system enough in the eyes of the men running this team.

It's tough to call the Kings a meritocracy.

I hope he sticks, I was impressed with him as a potential bottom six guy, but he's not a kid anymore.

Can't say a bad thing about any game Akil has played.

Wow statement game for the coaches vs, Fiala.

Slightly risky move since I would think Fiala got the message.

But maybe he pulled a Kaliyev after the game.

Interesting that Lewis was announced scratched then they changed it to Fiala.. from Yahoo fantasy:

i don't think he'll learn from it either, i think he just lacks that "is this a good idea" impulse control on the ice
