2024-25 San Diego Gulls/Tulsa Oilers

No Solberg today.....but at least Kinal is in a top 4 role :sarcasm:

Can really see how badly hit by injury the Gulls are when Myatovic, Pitre, Twaynski are all in the top 9.

Myatovic-Carpenter-Bailey
Sidorov-Mysak-Pitre
Twarynski-Lopina-Caulfield
Brodzinski-Lindmark-Howe

Heatherington-Luneau
Kinal-McKeown
Hinds-Warren

Dansk
Buteyets

1-0 San Jose, shot from the point is deflected and trickles through the defence and a forward skates through and collects the puck and slots it past Dansk.

Gulls look pretty terrible so far.....not really unexpected as I would say they only have 6 AHL level forwards on the roster right now.

Solberg got the message on Sunday. That's a looong flight, must give him some time to arrive there and get used to the new time zone.

How do you think Gulls D-pairings will look like when he's ready to play?

2-0 San Jose on the PP, kept the puck in the Gulls zone the entire PP a shot from the top of the circles beats all the traffic and goes in. Dansk completely unsighted. Very ugly 1st period.

Dansk has been about the only bright spot for the Gulls.

I've liked some of Luneau's defensive plays, there was a good example in the first period of Luneau not being so aggressive when a forward attempts to go around the outside. Didn't get sucked in, and managed to cut out the pass attempt. Want to see more of that as it's been a problem area for him this season.

Gulls have a back to back coming up in Henderson in a couple of days with 19 hours between the start of game 1 and game 2 so I'm thinking he'll be in for at least one, if not both of those games for sure.

In terms of where he would slot in, going to depend if the Gulls go with 12-6 or 11-7. Given they have quite a few forward injuries they have gone 11-7 a few times.

I'd expect him to come in for Kinal and be paired with McKeown if they stick to 6 d-men. McKeown is an AHL veteran and carries the puck a little more, so allows Solberg to play a bit of a simplier game and ease in.

But I wouldn't be surprised if the Gulls go with 11 forwards and 7 d-men. Gives Solberg a chance to rotate through without being expected to play 15+ minutes straight away, especially given the back to back games.

Not sure how Gulls haven't scored in the 2nd period. Pitre with a nice move and uses traffic well to disguise his shot which hits the post, then might have been Twarynski on a breakaway which goes through the 5 hole possibly and bounces out past the post.

3-0 San Jose, shot from the right circle beats Dansk. Once again a bunch of traffic infront of the Gulls net, Dansk really had no chance to ever see the shot.

4-0 San Jose on the empty net goal.

Not a game to write home about for the Gulls, outside of the first 10 minutes of the 3rd period they were completely outclassed. Again, not really a surprise though. Injuries and call ups have pretty much cost them all their top players.

With all of San Diego’s talent up with the ducks… do we have any forward help coming?

I know we have some potential d help coming

From a scoring perspective it's going to be Colangelo/Pasta/Sidorov as pure scorers. But I don't see top line potential for any of them, more likely to be middle 6 forwards. I'd be surprised if Pasta/Sidorov are NHL regulars before 2026 though.

Nestrenko I can see forging himself out a 3rd/4th line role as a speedy two way forward. He seemed to work a lot on that the second half of the season with San Diego and it worked out pretty decently. I'd like to see him in a similar role next season with Anaheim. He worked really well playing with two big bodies in Gaucher and Caufield as he adds some scoring touch and speed along with their physical play.

Gaucher as a 4th line defensive centre, great defensively and brings high tempo and physical play. I've said it before but I see him as the 4C (or 4RW if we can sign an elite 4C) for next season.

I don't see anyone else on the roster among the forwards right now as NHL possibilities.

Or any word on Pasta's injury? Maybe there was word already and I missed it
I missed a couple of Gulls games so I'm not sure if they mentioned it in the pre-game in one of those, but he took a pretty nasty hit and his leg got caught between the leg of the defenceman and the boards, and he wasn't able to put any weight on it at all when it happened.

Pretty confident his season is over.

First practice for Solberg with the team today, he probably needs some more practice and get to know his new team. There's a chance he'll play against Henderson, but his debut game will more likely be at home on Wednesday.
might have to go to that game…. Specially if him and/or moore are playing
