Gulls win 2-1 over the Barracuda in San Jose, Gaucher got the winner in the SO with a great move on Askarov. Gaucher was the 1st star of the game too, which wasn't a surprise, was everywhere on the ice and the Gulls best forward for sure. Feel like once he pots one, he'll start to get going because he's played some good hockey this last little stretch.
Clang saved 31/32 shots.
Apparently the Gulls first ever win at Tech CU Arena (home of the Barracuda since 2022) which is a wild stat.
On a side note, the Sharks must lose money on the Barracuda, 892(!) in attendance for this one and averaging under 2000 for the season

We lost a GM, HC, and two assistant coaches in San Diego for past two and a quarter seasons. Crazy turnover rate.

Gulls win 5-3, first back to back wins this season (woof).
Clang looked good in net again, saved 22/25.
Caufield 1st star, Sidorov 2nd star, Pitre 3rd star.
In terms of Ducks affiliated players and some notes:
Pastujov 1+0 (3 goals in 6 games since his call up)
Sidorov 1+1 (first goal in 13 games - but I think he's looked bright offensively, just hadn't had the reward previosuly)
Caufield 1+1 (first goal of the season)
Pitre 1+0 (first ever AHL goal, has looked solid since being promoted to the top line, but very much a work in progress physically)
Gaucher 0+1 (second point of the season, continues to look solid most nights, just needs more production)
Luneau 0+1 (5 points in 12 games, needs to reel in his game a little as he leaves his partner out to dry a fair bit since being sent down, but that could just be an AHL thing)
Nesterenko 0+1 (first point in 7 games)
I just want to say in the final minute, Hinds had one of the worst shifts I've seen from a defenceman (had a solid game otherwise), attempted to just throw the puck out of the zone like 5 times, led to a couple of icings and 3 giveaways. Just zero composure. Lucky Clang lost his goalie pad in a scramble infront of the net and the refs had to blow the play dead which gave them a break.
Was nice to see them come back as the first 2 periods were pretty rough going, but 3 goals in 4 minutes in the 3rd period blew it open. I hope Harkins comes back to the Gulls soon as he's such a difference maker down there and they need all the play drivers they can get down there at the moment.

I'd like to see Colangelo back down in San Diego than wasting away on the 4th line, doing 4th line roles. At least in San Diego, Colangelo was in a top-6 role and being an offensive force.

Crazy that since then eichel has solidified himself as a top 5 player and a cup champ
Dionico has been scratched for the last 4 games - don‘t like it, because I thought, he had a solid start to his first pro season. Has anybody more insight on this?

Gulls win 5-4. 2 goal, 3 point night for Sidorov, who sits at a more than respectable 14 points (7+7) in 21 games in his debut season for a bad team

Sidorov gets to play with Gaucher-Caulfield. Whoever played with Gaucher-Caulfield last year all produced such as Tracey and Pastujov. Great job on Sidorov hitting on the opportunity!

We need a pp that consistently has a man always in the crease to either impair the vision of the goalie, cause a redirect, or cause mayhem on a potential rebound. Of course, having a sniper helps to score goals easier with a man in the crease too.

Sidorov 5+4 in his last 4 games, looking like a very promising rookie season, especially with Caufield and Gaucher starting to produce too. 4th in goals in the AHL among U21 forwards, and only behind top draft picks.

For the past few seasons, our coaches love separating pairs that work. Year ago, wingers Tracey and Perreault were an offensive dynamo together. Then they were often separated and their production languished. Last year, whoever was paired with Gaucher-Caulfield were able to generate offense be it Pastujov or Tracey. This year, Gaucher-Caulfied were separated until recently and Sidorov became their winger. Gaucher and Caulfield are big grinders with Caulfield possessing a little more of an offensive mind than Gaucher. Throw in a scoring winger and that's a great recipe. McIlvane was the coach last year and this year. It feels like the coaches under Verbeek are not allowed to hone onto the player's own talent.
Clang had an up and down start with a rough middle (Oct 28 to Nov 10). He has settled down for the past couple of weeks. iirc, Dansk might have been the replacement for Suchanek. Suchanek had a great season in the ECHL and AHL under an AHL contract. We signed him to an ELC, but found out in early Sept that he had to have surgery on a ruptured ACL. There were no specifics on when the surgery took place, but he's out 6-8 months.
I don't know how to gauge our AHL d-men development. Zell was an AHL All-Star last year, but top students always perform well even with a bad teacher. Case in point, Helleson did not look like he was developing in the AHL for the past three seasons. I didn't know if he was supposed to be a shutdown RD, transition RD, or offensive RD b/c his play was all over the place, but not in a good way. Once in the NHL, Helleson is performing well and playing to his strengths as a shutdown RD who can chip in from the point. His role was simplified as a bottom-pairing D and not asked to do much more. What a boon for us!
With Luneau, I think he's had a rough start despite all of his talents. I thought he would be tearing up the AHL like Zell did last year. Maybe the injury has slowed Luneau's progress and we can take our time with him. Gudas and Trouba are under contract for another season as well as Helleson holding fort in the NHL, the rush for Luneau has been relaxed.
