Speculation: 2024-25 Roster Thread

I'd like to keep Zellweger. He has a lot of offensive skill that might be difficult to replace. He also comes off as someone who desperately wants to win and for a team like the ducks, that's a big plus.
Certainly his passion, skill, skating and work ethic are big pluses for Zellweger. He will carve out a nice NHL career even with his lack of size as a PP specialist, whether it is with the Ducks or another organization.

I'm on team give the new coach 20-30 games then make trades.
Yep, I think it’d be silly to move guys like Zegras or Minty. Zellwagon wasn’t a Verbeek pick , so I wouldn’t be shocked if he was moved for a forward equivalent.

IMO it is just as likely that Verbeek may want to clean up the roster before the new coach arrives. It really depends on whether he believes that certain players underproduced b/c of the coach or whether he just doesn't see those players as part of the core going forward. I can see either argument.

Hey people. Hope everyone's doing well. Haven't posted for a long time but I've been around lurking. Just thought I'd summarize some of my thoughts of the past season and next. Didn't see a subject talking about hindsight and the upcoming season so posting here.

Management:
  • It looked like Cronin was much milder the 2nd year...to me, looked like he was trying pretty hard to get on the good side of players like Z, possibly realizing that being too strict and gruff wasn't a good strat. While I believe he was trying and I feel a bit bad, I'm glad we have the opportunity to get a new coach. I'm hoping:
    • 1) They're more of a player's coach...being disciplined is good but hope they can connect with players better and use more positivity to bring out the effort in the players.

    • 2) It's not Q, except possibly in a supporter's role rather than HC, as some others have stated. I don't mind another experiment e.g. someone like Carle, but I don't have any specific preferences.

    • 3) They move away from man-to-man D.

    • 4) They maybe get some new assistant coaches to try to improve our special teams.
Players:
  • Personally don't get why people want to give up on Z. Should allow new coaching and synergistic linemate opportunities to see where he's at. There is almost no other player in the NHL with his type of cerebral playmaking game IMO...the way he uses that awareness is visually unique, and he's 100% a fan favorite. Don't get rid of him. Don't give up on him.

  • While I can understand the sentiment on Zell a bit more, same feeling for him. Give him a chance to continue growing. That type of passion for the game will allow him to continue learning and improving. They do need to teach him that while patience is a virtue, he's probably holding on to the puck too much. He will be much more effective and lose the puck less if he moves the puck to others more quickly and then uses his skating to create more opportunities.

  • Less sure what to think about Minty's play. Doesn't seem fast enough to be a consistent offensive D threat, and seemed to get beaten on plays pretty regularly. That said...no way do I think we should be giving up on him...just making that clear. Hoping new coaching and D strat will help.

  • Just get McT signed quickly. I'm mostly okay signing him long term...not sure what he's worth but with the cap going up a lot it doesn't feel too risky.

  • I was up on LaCombe before the start of the season, and then I was definitely one of the ones that thought he looked like crap and was disappointed for the start of the season. My bad. I definitely think he lucked out on getting some goals and assists and think his point total was a bit inflated, because I don't think he has a great shot, but sometimes you create your own luck. Either way I'm glad we have him and expect he'll be a stud for years.

  • I was pleasantly surprised by Helleson overall. Was thinking he would be passed over by Luneau but apparently that's not the case, with Luneau still needing to hone his D skills.

  • Can't wait for Sennecke to join the club. Expecting that kid to be really good though I'm sure he still needs more seasoning (and weight/muscle). Still also excited and hopeful to see Hinds, Pasta, Sidorov and Solberg come up to the big club though in the case of Solberg also sounds like he needs more time to grow and learn.

  • Would prefer to give more time and opportunity to our prospects rather than look for 3rd/4th line guys like Harkins, McGinn, Fabbri, etc.
Finally, Cam. Sooo...did he just show us that the problem wasn't him, it was the Ducks? I will admit his play with the Ducks more recently got me to the point where I went from definitely appreciating him to being okay with moving on. But dang did he seem to do really well with the Blues. Anyone with thoughts on that?

I think Cam is a good soldier who did what he was told even when it made him look terrible.

I also think he finally got fed up with that and could no longer muster up much motivation this season. Being in a similar place at my job, I can sympathize. There's only so long you can shovel the crap they give you.

I've speculated before on this as well in other threads, but I think being passed over for the captaincy really hurt him. Which I get, generally if you're in a rebuild, the captaincy goes to one of the young guys to grow into the role or the franchise's longest-tenured position player.

No, it's just that the colors are unreadable. I'd be happy to read it otherwise, but it's painful on the eyes.
What colors would be better? Most people just use default, I was trying to soften it with a slightly darker than white...ohhhh I wonder if it's because I use the dark background setting...

LOL it was definitely that I was adjusting based on my dark background. Hopefully this is better.

Black? Maybe it's because I don't use dark mode. Gray on gray is tough.

Edit: I see you changed it. Much better.
