Not hating on Killorn, but I wish Cronin would swap him and Colangelo. Or Gauthier and Carlsson (Carlsson centering McTavish and Colangelo, Zegras centering Cutter and Killer)

"I like playing with (Killorn) because he's very smart," Zegras said. "He's very good at playing in between guys and knows when to give you the puck, give you space, where to go, where to help and support. Leo can kind of do it all. Great skating through the neutral zone, great hands. He's got a great shot, sees the ice very well. It's a good mix."

I actually don't mind it. Killorn and Cutter are our best defensive forwards. The top line will shield the youthful 3rd line, which has two rookies on it with Cutter and Colangelo. We may get lucky and this third line could be a thing. I know Cutter-Mac have chemistry. Colangelo and Cutter got instant friendship with their NHL experience last season. Let's see what happens with Colangelo on it.
I agree. The combinations just seem wrong. Zegras at center and McTavish at wing just makes sense to try for awhile. Killorn and Carlsson do not have chemistry and if Zegras wants to play center and likes playing with Killorn, why not lean into that? I would try:
McTavish-Carlsson-Colangelo/Future Acquisition
Vatrano-Strome-Terry
Gauthier-Zegras-Killorn

McT has been doing much better at center as of late and he is their best FO guy. Leave him at center.
I'd be fine with it. It's not like he's going to bring much in trade. He might end up being the 6/7, which is fine. The Ducks have actually had abnormally good health on the blueline this season. Most seasons they'd have at least one guy out injured.

If only he wouldn't get kicked out of like half of the draws he is supposed to take. And I don't think he has been better at Center as of late.
IMO Z makes more of a game impact as a Center than Mac does. I think Mac should move to wing and hopefully become a 30 goal scorer using his shot.

Z and Mac are two different types of centers. I think Z was at his best being a playmaking wing when he was paired with Rico. Coincidentally, that's kinda how I see Carlsson when paired with Mac.
Both Z and Carlsson are perimeter players. Their O-zone offense is accentuated when there's someone who can do the dirty work along the boards as well as have some higher end offensive IQ like a Rico or Mac (depending on which day).
I dunno what happened with Mac last year vs Mac this year. It's as if he has had different marching orders this season, which is probably why Cronin sees Mac as a third line grinder than an two-way C.
If we take a look at the long term aspects, Strome is under contract for two more seasons after this year. We need a strong centerman after Strome's contract is done, which is would be Mac's role. Carlsson, after adding more weight, could be a dynamic duo with Z like Z was with Rico. Of course, we could just run all three as centers after Strome's contract is done.
