Speculation: 2024-25 Roster thread

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
  • We're expecting server maintenance on March 3rd starting at midnight, there may be downtime during the work.
Is there any site that can give us the advanced statistics just since a certain date like Christmas for example or just 2025? I know our goalies bailed us out every Game basically early in the year and still do quite a bit but I feel our start was so miserable it drags us down quite a bit.

Here are some 5v5 Adv Stats for the Ducks in 2025 alone, courtesy of Hockey-Reference:

We're a -6 goal differential with a GF per game rate of 2.73 and a GA per game rate of 3.00. We are down-bad at CF%, FF%, and oZS%, which means our goalies are doing the heavy lifting still for us to have a Pts % of 0.568.

The defense 5v5 is still terribad. I still maintain that the man on man scheme is wrong for this team's personnel, and has been for years now, even going back to Eakins regime.

The bulk of the forwards on this team are not fast enough or good enough skaters to stay tight with their checks using man to man, and the young D often gets puck focused and lose their checks in front of the net. So it becomes a pseudo man to man where they can't force turnovers, and spend 45+sec chasing their assignment in the D zone. So by time the other team has tired themselves out from multiple grade A chances in the slot and finally give the puck up, the entire 5 man group is dead and only sensible outcome is to dump the puck in and go for a line change.

That's why they suffer greatly against teams who cycle well and have d men that pinch effectively in offensive zone. It's also why majority of their offensive chances only come off rush or neutral zone turnovers. They have no capacity to properly force turnovers in their own d zone and counter on break outs.

Even before Eakins we had trouble with man on man. After BM fired Randy he switched to zone. Eakins came in and brought back the man on man. Cronin is using man on man. The thing is you need good players for that system to work. We aren't Colorado.

The point of man-to-man is to simplify assignments for everyone. Man-to-man requires athleticism, zone requires defensive IQ. I believe, even with the obvious limits, the coaching staff trusts their limited athleticism more than their defensive IQ.

The probably aren't wrong, either. That points to another issue of defensive coaching and personnel. Do we employ players who can't, or won't learn? Do we know how to teach defensive tactics effectively? Doesnt seem like it!

Terry is not scoring enough to justify his 7 Million Dollar paycheck.. Im talking about goals.. Not assists.. Mac T.. I think Cronin needs to call you a third liner again..

“ Terry would have similar production to Ratenan if he got to play with McKinnon “ is a laughable comment someone recently made around here. Terry isn’t anywhere near rats

Rantanen is apparently looking for over $13 mil AAV. Is he better than Terry? Sure. Is he TWICE the player Terry is? Not even close.
Every single team has at least 2-3 forwards better than Terry. League wide, Ratenan is top handful of forwards in the entire league. What am I missing here? Do we want to stay bad forever? Minty and MacT have underwhelmed, both will sign Bridge deals. We have money to spend

My problem with paying him that much money is he's not really a centerpiece type superstar. Put differently, I wouldn't expect him to be the straw that stirs the drink. I know ten games isn't a huge sample but he went from significantly over PPG playing with Mack and Makar to 6 points in 10 games. If the reality is that Rants' production was inflated by playing with them, I don't see how that changes to be a deserving of 13 million in Anaheim.

If he ends up an 80 point player on this team, that kind of contact will be an albatross. Especially when some of our kids are due their first big contract.

So you would rather try for marner? Verbeek will try for one of them.
