The hate for basically everything in here is over the top. It’s painful.
That's how I take it. A lot of echo chamber/finger pointing/blame gaming at literally anything remotely related to the organization :)

But its very understandable. People be passionate, frustrated. We can't be talking about someone leading the scoring race or the playoff chances, so gotta talk about something. And the only thing to talk about is mostly who/what will/won't/already sucked more today/yesterday/future potential sucking.

I checked our stats since Nov 10 (last 9 games) which is about when our better-stretch started. Small sample size but we faced teams like Dallas and Vegas too:

By point% we'd be 4th in the Pacific, 14th in the league. Goal differential 29-23. That'd be scoring the 7th most goals and allowing 9th least goals in the leavue during that stretch. We're still outshot but 27-31, that's like bottom 5-10, so we're bailed out by our goalies, still.

But eye test approves, we are playing better

Thanks for these stats. With our goalies a shot differential like that is manageable.

This team needs a hot line. It needs a couple players to just get consistent/chemistry going. Everything is so inconsistent and unreliable right now.

Just out of curiosity I checked 5o5 xGF% on naturalstattric.com and that's gone from 42.53 (31st) to 45.43 (29th) in the same timeframe. Improvement but still bad.

Ducks are nearly Top 10 in the league in GA/G. If they could get just a little more scoring going they could get themselves a few games over .500 by Christmas.

Terry who has annoyed me as of late, leads the team in points yet is barely on pace for 60 points, it then drops off significantly to the 2nd guy. Unacceptable….Need the kids and vets to produce more.

Sorry folks challenging some of my negative energy from my other team, lol. Who are actually playing worse than Anaheim now.

I’d like to see this when Leo gets back:

Vatrano-Carlsson-Terry
Zegras-McTavish-Killorn
Gauthier-Strome-Leason
Harkins-Lundestrom-Johnston

. Can also switch Gauthier and Killorn. Colangelo goes down for now and comes back up after the trade deadline in a top 9 role

Bottom line is I think we need to try the Terry/Carlsson experiment again and see if they can get it going. I’m liking Zegras and Mac together for now

Dallas, Vegas, and LA are the only teams we faced that were .500 or better. The other seven teams were sub-.500 teams (at the time I looked at our future schedule before the Dallas game).

  • Vs Dallas, Vegas, and LA
    • Record: 1-2-0 (2 pts)
    • Pts %: 0.333
    • GF: Ducks 7, Opp 7
The two losses were one-goal losses

  • Vs sub-.500
    • Record: 4-1-1 (9 pts)
    • Pts %: 0.750
    • GF: Ducks 22, Opp 16

We hit a 3-game rough patch before the next 9 games when Dostal getting run to the ground finally reflected, GF = 5 and GA = 14.

Gibby returning really helped bail out Dostal when he was on the dump and gave Dostal time to rest & recoup. Our PK unit has been shutout great for the past six games, going 15 for 15. The previous three games, the PK was terrible by going 4 for 9.

We are playing better, but also inconsistent. We went 1-2-1 in our last four games and three losses by one goal. Still trending on the right direction. We are the best of the worst, as Midnight Burrito stated many games ago.

Terry is “ so so good” in reality he’s a solid 2nd line winger. Ducks desperately need a top line scoring winger

We need an elite player. Leo is the closest one who has that potential and Cronin is wasting his talents.
Leo also failed to bulk up as much as he needed to this summer as well, if we are being honest. He’s still 2 years away from elite IMO, his frame will hold him back from his desired playstyle until he builds it up substantially.

Some random thoughts

Our defense is super soft. Outside of Gudas, who takes himself out of position far too often in search of hitting, and Doumolin who gives exactly 1 per game, not a one of them is useful for even a single hit per game.

We are turnover machines. I’m not sure how much of that is still figured g out NHL speed and how much is the system, and how much is our forwards not getting open, but this team is going nowhere until that’s figured out. Interesting that the guy who gets the most grief for it (LaCombe) is one of the least guilty offenders, and also leads the team in takeaways, which we also horrible at as a team.

Didn’t take a screenshot, but super impressed with Helleson looking as effective as he has with only a team worst 32.8% offensive zone start %

One thing I've noticed about LaCombe is that when the rest of the team is playing poorly, he seems to play really well and make calm, smart decisions that stand out to me.

He only ever makes dumb plays when everyone else is playing well. It's odd.

He seems to get into trouble when he thinks too much about what to do rather than just doing it.
