I swear some of you don’t want certain players to come here lol. Some don’t want Stamkos, some don’t want Marchessault.

Yes - let’s continue to be mediocre in all aspects!
Fans not wanting their team to sign past their prime FA’s doesn’t mean they want their team to remain bad. It means they want their team’s cap space to be used wisely.

Then Marchessault isn't happening. Report from Friedman today said the hangup between him and Vegas is term.
He’s to old guys. Stamkos is the only option of the senior players available that we might go for. The killorn connection. I still think somehow some way ( trade) we get an age appropriate rh top 6 wing. That fits with the core, if things get to expensive later on I would guess this winger who will probably be the perfect fit, would stay over Terry if one needed to be traded due to cap
Issues down the road.

Ya but that's likely because Vegas can't give the AAV to make up for it.
If he is going to take the lower AAV to stay in Vegas you would assume he wants the term to make up for it.

I would gladly give him 7+ for 2 years.

Friedman saying the hangup being term seems to indicate AAV isn't an issue. And I don't think it will be because I suspect Theodore is getting moved anyways. That would give them north of 10m to spend on a top 6 wing and a 3rd line wing.

I hear what your saying. But logically, lets say Vegas is offering him 5mil per year. Sure he will willing to take that AAV but he wants a 4 year deal. If they were offering him 7 per, he would probably be a lot more comfortable with 2 years.

He wants to stay and will take the lower AAV to make it work, but Vegas has to give him something, and that is term.

Thats just how I see it happening. Maybe I'm completely wrong and he has no interest in getting a way higher AAV for 2 years. /shrug

You think they would move 28 year old Theodore to keep 33 year old Marchessault? Or are you suggesting they would go after a different winger?

I think they are moving Theodore regardless. The Hanifin signing was the end of the road for Theodore. They aren't going to pay Theo's next deal, Hanifin is better and they need to sign Marchessault or a replacement.

Wouldn't be my first choice with Martinez basically on his way out and Pietrangelo starting his decline. Hague and Whitecloud aren't every going to replace him.

But if Marchy isn't going to be a Duck he isn't going to be a Duck. I just thought it'd be fun to see him with Zegras. No big deal if he doesn't come here.

Some players want the stability of being in a place for four+ years. I don't know what his family situation is, or whether that's just personal preference for him, but he might want to stay in a place and take less money over maximizing dollars. /shrug

Lets say ducks do get 1st over pick ( not likely) what will the lineups look like?
If the miracle happens, I can see:

Celebrini - Mac - Vatrano
Killorn - Leo - Terry
Gauthier - Zegras - Arvidsson (2x3.5M)?
Lundy - Strome - Lafferty (2x2M)?
13/14: Ross, Leason
Callups: Nesterenko, Regenda, Colangelo

We likely will be moving on from Jones unless he is willing to take a team friendly 2-way deal, Meyers is likely signing elsewhere or with the Gulls (not sure why we wasted a pick for him), McGinn is probably going to be playing with the Gulls, and Groulx will likely be waived and playing in the AHL.

Ehh it's time for this team to bite the bullet and take some risks now enough being a bottom feeder.

The Kings thought the same thing. Now they are going to be stuck in mediocrity for the next decade.
No the kings Didn't go through what the ducks went through.. Ducks needs to climb out of the bottom now

Signing free agents isn't how you climb out of the bottom. That is going to be reliant on the development of Carlsson/McT/Z/Minty. Anything we add will be to supplement those guys. When the kids mature into leading roles we'll be good again. Simple as that.

You left off Mr. No Name in that group.

I agree with this. This is why it's a head scratcher that Verbeek is pushing for the playoffs next year when many of our youths got their first year in the pros this year while finishing with the 3rd worst record and only one point better than the 2022-23 team. We're going to be adding more rookies in LW Cutter and seeing Zell full time in the NHL. There's also the possibility of seeing RD Luneau and RW Colangelo in the NHL level.

Could be upper management wanting playoffs for more ticket sales.. Owners maybe pushing. Who knows

The Samuelis should absolutely be telling verbeek that after this 3rd pick in the draft enough is enough. The skill is there time to compete. Zegras and macT aren’t children anymore time they are given players to succeed with. Also, enough of the waiver bin fodder and let’s bring in actual impact 4th line players( Big boss Ross Johnston still being around and inserted into the Lineup when we play tough teams is also a nice plus) this is the first season since the ducks rebuild era where I can honestly say we weren’t bullied. Johnston and gudas had a lot to do with that

A lot depends on the UFA signings.

If they add Pesce and Machessault for example then they just added a top pairing RHD and a 40 goal scorer. They should fighting for a playoff spot.
That’s a lot of IF though. Plus, overpaying for some players that may help us make the playoffs seems shortsighted
