Speculation: 2024-25 Roster Thread

It's the guys who have been there before and are supposed to lead the way that look way worse than the kids do, which is disturbing. Strome in particular looks like his brain has been on vacation for the better part of a month.
It's crazy how many chances that strome gets in a game though. Every game he seems to just miss the net.

Yeah, I'm sick of the "this is a young team" narrative from Hazy when the Ducks don't play well.

I'll fall back to the narrative I used when the Ducks had that dreadful stretch in January - the team looks completely unmotivated and that's on the coaching staff. They look disinterested and unprepared.

Is it? If they feel these games are as meaningful as they say they are shouldn't that be enough to motivate them?

Yes. It's a coach's job to motivate the players. Or, if the players are motivated, it's a coach's job to harness that energy and deploy it in a way that impacts games.

Strome is a low-to-mid teen goals and 40-50 point career guy.

This year he is pacing for low teens goals and 40-50 points.

That’s why he makes 5M. We are getting exactly the guy we paid for. I don’t understand people who expect him to be something different.

I actually haven't minded Strome at all this year for the most part, he just picked the absolute worst time to be playing his worst hockey of the season. Although that entire line hasn't been clicking for what feels like several weeks.

Hopefully not. He needs to get bigger.

Also, the goal is to add a legit top 6 wing, Likely replacing Killorn.

Zegras Carlsson UFA
Vatrano Strome Terry
Gauthier McTavish Colangelo
X X Killorn

Where are you going to put Sennecke? Also, let’s see what Pastujov and Nesterenko can do.
That's an important distinction as I don't think it's very realistic unless somehow Verbeek can pull off a deal. Free agency doesn't look very fruitful in that regard this offseason.

If only this organization had someone in place to proactively do something about that 🤔

Oh I don't either. Is there an expectation Killorn is going to get moved down in the lineup next year?
Depends on a lot of factors.

I will say though that trotting out Killorn on the top line next year at 36 years old isn’t a great way to improve on the margins going into a season. And I’m a big Killorn fan. He’s a fine player to have on your team and a good leader/someone that people respect but we have to seriously try to win games at some point

If we strike out on top 6 upgrades, I think we should be experimenting with Gauthier/Colangelo much higher in the lineup next season personally.

I don’t want Sennecke anywhere near the NHL next season

I think it an interesting point that Killorn is 7th among forwards in ESTOI per game and 7th among forwards for PPTOI per game. He's 3rd over all because of his PK time. He's not being used on the first line because Carlsson is not our First line center yet. The hate seems pretty overblown IMO.
I don’t hate Killorn at all. I just hope that Carlsson will be taking a move forward next year, and I don’t think Killorn can go with him. Killorn belongs on a 3rd line at this point. I don’t think it’s wise to break up Gauthier McTavish Colangelo. I’m not sure where he fits IF we get a top 6 UFA/trade.

Sorry didn't mean your comment specifically about killorn, just the general hate on these boards he gets. Imo as nice as colangelo has been I can't see him displacing Killorn. Sam makes the team either as a 4th liner or because we were unable to acquire the top 6 player we need IMO. Generally I'd also prefer atrome moved back to wing yo allow Z to center a line. To me Z at wing is the most baffling lineup decision we've made.

This is the answer. Regardless of anyone's feelings on Killorn, there isn't any room if the Ducks add to the top 6. I'm personally fine with him on the 4th line and PK as someone who can slide up in the lineup due to injuries. But Carlsson needs a high end player who plays at his speed next season, and that's not Killorn anymore.
