2024-25 Roster Thread #2: Midseasonnar

So not 2 years now, but 4 years.

So why were Seeler, TK, Sanheim, etc... all signed? And Laughton not traded? And Walker attempted to re-signed.

Such lies to try and defend incompetence.

Wait....just days ago the Flyers were a SC contender at ES. The math isn't adding up.

So negative how can you say that management will continue to make mistakes in the future cause of past mistakes they've been making? Why don't you live your life better and find another team
What the hell has the team done to have 1 shred of confidence in them, besides taking the obvious choice, Michkov?

Sorry shoulda put the :sarcasm:

How much worse would we view Briere if Krug said yes?

Who's not making plays?
First assist rates last season/this season at ES
TK 1.03 / 1.18
Brink 0.82 / 1.22
Poehling 0.61 / 1.03
Laughton 0.52 / 0.92
Cates 0.35 / 0.79
Couts 0.51 / 0.78

Tippett 0.89 / 0.69
Farabee 0.95 / 0.42
Frost 1.03 / 0.25

Foerster 0.16 / 0.46
Hathaway 0.40 / 0.55
Michkov na /0.66

The further right a player is the better the playmaker he is.

It's quite simple. When you have the same philosophy, processes and way of thinking that the team has had for over the last decade and longer, even though you change the people. Nothing has really changed. Why do you think having an informed and intelligent opinion based on the teams actions and statements is not living life better. Why do you feel that having a negative opinion means that you are required to find another team. Is it a prerequisite and requirement to be positive in order to be a fan of a team? Your comments are not intelligent. It's the equivalent of I don't like what you said and I'm going to tell my mommy.

Lol I really should have put the :sarcasm:. I was doing a Boocowski impression.

Listen here, wow:

“He’ll play winning hockey”

No wonder the Flyers passed on him.

You ever stop and wonder at all our playmakers regressing hard under Tortorella?

Nah, of course not
It’s going to be hysterical when, at some point in the distant future, he completely rips on the now ex-Flyers Torts and Briere.

Just like he did with Hextall
And Hak
And AV
And Cuck

When have the Flyers patiently accumulated assets and taken a long view?
Only period was when they fired Clarke, and rebuilt in 1990-94.
Hextall started at the 2015 TDL, then stopped, then started again in 2017, then signed JVR.

Flyers have fewer 30+ year old players getting regular ice time than any other rebuilding team other than Buffalo (and they're a disaster area):
Buffalo (1): Zucker
Flyers (4): Couts, Hathaway, Risto, Seeler
Utah (5): Kerfoot, Cole, Bjugstad, Maata, Valimaki
Montreal (5): Matheson, Armia, Gallagher, Anderson, Savard
San Jose (6): Grandlund, Toffoli, Wennberg, Ceci, Rutta, Goodrow
Anaheim (8): Strome, Vatrano, Killorn, Gudas, Dumoulin, McGinn, Johnston, Trouba
Chicago (9): Teravainen, Hall, Foligno, Jones, Mikhevev, Murphy, Smith, Maroon, Brodie

Briere has resisted making moves to improve the team such as trading prospects/picks for a veteran goaltender or center. You know Holmgren would have pulled the trigger on such a move by now.

Which is why inaction is good, to me the optimal outcome this season:
1) continue to play well at 5x5, evaluate the current roster
2) let the goaltenders deep six the season, focus on improving STs
3) move Laughton and Risto at the TDL and/or June, add picks in 2026 and 2027
4) be opportunistic but not desperate, if you can trade for a young center go for it.

When have the Flyers ever removed a portion of their hockey ops/front office aside from the GM. Sure as shit not in my 20, and something years of following them.

Hard to argue things are different when the same men remain year after year.

What party/organization/business faces such levels of complacency, and zero accountability?

Fire a few people for f***s sake, or stop BS’ing your fanbase about a “new era”.

Farabee's game will come around when the Flyers accept him for what he is and not try to make him into what they want. He's not a Tom Wilson like head banging forward but is a skilled player. When Giroux was traded away, he was asked who was theist talented Flyer left on the club. His answer was Farbee. Heck the club even tried to get him to play center ice for a short while. Instead of playing off of his skills, they tried to bang him as a square peg into a round hole with the results being that he's currently wrecked as a player. Player development 101.
"[EVERY SINGLE PLAYER]'s game will come around when the Flyers accept him for what he is and not try to make him into what they want." True historically, true today, true for all time to come.

How long a team has been rebuilding and how many young players they've drafted that became NHL players is a factor. Everyone, including myself keeps telling you that the issue with the Flyers is not that they don't have some good young players. It's that they don't have enough all star to elite players. Every team is going to have support players. As those teams rebuild gets further in and they develop more players ready for the NHL. The number of older vets they have will decrease. The number of 30+ age vets a team has, does not support your premise.
The Flyers are not rebuilding. They signed a 28 year old goaltender to a 3+M a year deal. I guess you forgot about that.

Barry f***ing Hanrahan still exists here for no conceivable or understandable reason

They signed him to a 2 year deal b/c Hart went MIA and their other young goalies weren't ready.

He's a "free good" in that they had the cap room, he had played at a high level in the KHL before he was exiled to the Arctic circle (literally), and if he played well, would be a tradable asset or a two year patch depending on other goalies.

Worst that happens is Comcast eats some money.
Best is he turns it around and can be flipped.

That is substantially disappointing from Foerster. He has playmaking abilities. It’s part of what separates him from the run of the mill versions of his archetype.
He's in his second season, he's 23, and playmaking is a plus, not his identity.
That is, Foerster's strengths are his shot, defensive IQ and board work.
Being able to make good passes is icing on the cake, but he's not competing for Brink's role.

Last 21 games (since the Cates line was put together):
Primary assists/60: Brink 1.23, Laughton 1.19, Michkov 1.18, Foerster 0.91, Couts 0.82, Poehling 0.71.
No, this is not definitive, the sample is only indicative, but see how second half plays out.

It is interesting that Laughton and Poehling are making more plays paired with more talented linemates - who would have figured?

Totally agree. I hope to see that change — anecdotally, I have seen instances where the setting stat takes a few years to develop. For example - Aho’s and F.Forsberg’s career setting line is below. You can see it takes until about ~23-24 for that stat to really start to shine. It’s possible that Foerster develops that further down the line.

You missed the point. You said that the Flyers didn't go out and sign a veteran goalie. Yes they did. They signed a 28 year old goalie to a 3+M 2 year contract.
