2024-25 Roster Thread #2: Midseasonnar

Farabee's game will come around when the Flyers accept him for what he is and not try to make him into what they want. He's not a Tom Wilson like head banging forward but is a skilled player. When Giroux was traded away, he was asked who was theist talented Flyer left on the club. His answer was Farbee. Heck the club even tried to get him to play center ice for a short while. Instead of playing off of his skills, they tried to bang him as a square peg into a round hole with the results being that he's currently wrecked as a player. Player development 101.

Farabee has become unrecognizable this season.

It went to them all.

My question is more so the use of the word games.

I initially filled the survey out assuming that it would be for one game. I redeemed my seats and then a friend who hadn’t yet filled out the survey asked about availability so I went back in and looked at a different game and the code worked. I then went into the game that I redeemed and it said it was already used.

So, uh, I’m pretty sure they’re giving out a pair of tickets to all of the games they had available (7).
Well, that's one way to get asses in seats. Brilliant marketing really.

I said before the season they're the isle of misfit toys.
Even Torts said the Cates line was a lucky happenstance.

Couts needs to move to LW. His lack of speed is more glaring than it was five years ago.
Frost is playing better but struggling to find chemistry.
TK and Tippett need a center who can keep up with them but also CYA.
Farabee, where does he fit?

But there is no rush to resolve these issues, this isn't a veteran team facing a closing window that doesn't want to write off a season (see Pens, etc).

I expect Briere to be more active this spring/summer, but it makes no sense to pursue FAs, other than an older center on a short-term deal who still has offensive skills, to buy time for the centers they drafted/will draft this summer. Maybe pick one up as a salary dump.

Briere needs to add more young assets and be patient.
And pull the plug on players who don't seem to be in their plans moving forward.
Frost and TK need to play together. I have said this for three years now, and during that span, they have played together for 500 mins at 5v5 and put up insane numbers. Like top line type numbers. If you let them play any more than ~5 games together, you’re gonna see another good line.

I would personally go something like:
Farabee-Frost-TK
Tippet-Couts-Michkov
Foerster-Cates-Brink
Laughton-Poehling-Hathaway

They haven't asked him to be a grinder, a 4th line with Farabee - Couts is not a checking line, Hathaway is a mucker, but with those two, someone has to do the dirty work.

The problem for Farabee is he's flatlined, he's got average speed, never filled out his frame so slightly below average strength, decent puck handler and playmaker but nothing special. He's good shooting in close which is why you want him near the net, but doesn't have a great wrist shot from say 20'. He's a complementary piece on the right line but not the straw that stirs the drink.

Now I think he's in a funk this year (Sh% way down), which is not uncommon for scorers, but this is the third season after his neck surgery, if he's going to break out, you'd expect it by now. He's been a solid scorer, and I expect regression to the mean, but don't see any sign the mean is trending up.

I think it's just poor phrasing and they meant to say one game of your choice. But I agree that it's unclear.

*Edit* I see your other post now. Hoo boy. Well at least they're comping the correct people.
I just can’t figure out if it’s a f*** up by the organization or if it’s a huge giveaway.

Neither is exactly ideal from a franchise standpoint.

I'd swap Tippett and Farabee for this reason.
Farabee is neither a mucker to retrieve pucks for the other two or a skater who can keep up with them.
Tippett makes things happen with his size and speed, and opens up the ice for Frost and TK
Meanwhile, as long as Couts stays at center, Farabee fits that style of play

You ever stop and wonder at all our playmakers regressing hard under Tortorella?

Nah, of course not

@JojoTheWhale

Speaking of tickets and the Flyers… how do you (and others) read this?

Sounds like comcast might be buying them to keep the ticket sold totals elevated. Now they need asses in the seats.

Agreed. But it’s hard to refix something that was unfixed

Because they're not.
Just because you say something, don't make it so.

Not only are you not watching games, you're not even looking at metrics either

Guys are not making plays. They used to. Now they do not. It is that dirt-simple. This is almost as ridiculous when than when you used to try to argue that Hakstol didn't run a perimeter offense.

Are you selling 7 pairs of tickets for a little under face value now?

Tippett doesn't make things happen. His offense is almost entirely one on one plays. He doesn't create or open space for his linemates. One of the lowest assist rates on the team.

"A grinder? Farabee is playing on the 4th line with Garnet Hathaway and you think they're asking him to be grinder?!"

Interesting to call the 4th line with Hathaway not a grinding line. Remind me again who was the one who kept telling us we aren't allowed to have skilled 4th liners? You have no choice but to have low skill grinders on the 4th line?

Right, the Flyers make no mystery of how they view the 4th line's purpose.

So, the playmakers. As I said. Thanks for proving it.
