you just held a player accountable.....proud of you 🍺

Players are held accountable all the time. You should try holding the team accountable. They've been bad for over a decade, through constant players turnover. The faces in management are the common problem, not the players.

Even if you think the players are the problem, it remains management's fault that they've acquired a parade of problematic players. The players don't appear by magic

Kind of alarming that Drysdale said he went from 178 last season to 196 to start camp, particularly for a guy whose game is speed & skating.

No one can put on 18 lbs of “pure muscle” in a summer. That’s a joke.

Desnoyers sucked last year because he put on too much weight last summer & lost a step. He said as much, & said this summer he worked hard on trimming down & regaining his speed, since his game is hounding the puck.

I never like hearing about how much a player “bulked up” in the offseason. It usually includes a lot of unnecessary weight that bogs them down.

Gaining strength is one thing, & sure you can put on a little weight in the process, but 18 lbs sounds excessive. 10 for a skinny kid? OK.

That does seem like a lot of weight to put on in such a short time, especially for someone whose game relies so heavily on agility. But at the same time, Drysdale has faced challenges with his size, often getting outmuscled and dealing with injuries as a result. His physical condition has been holding him back. If the extra weight helps him hold up better physically without sacrificing his skating, it could be a positive adjustment. Last seasen seeing Drysdale next to York who is a fitness freak - that way like day and night!

He's also on a 1 way contract paying him 925k this year ( great deal for him personally ), so very little chance he gets picked up off waivers
If he gets claimed on waivers that team has to keep him on the NHL roster anyway so his one way salary doesn’t really impact that decision if they like the player. Not going to try to predict NHL waiver outcomes (look at the trash this team has claimed in the last half decade) but if the Flyers like him even a little bit, they have the roster spots to not expose him to waivers.

I’d have no problem if they ended up waiving him if they thought they actually had an upgrade. That roster space will just be backfilled with garbage though. We know it. This team has not the slightest clue of how to manage the fringes of a roster.

The problem with the current team isn't the fringes of the roster, they were pretty solid last season, at least when healthy, Poehling - Hathaway and anyone at LW was one of the best 4th lines in the NHL, Zamula - Risto was a solid 3rd pair. They should be deeper this year, as the LHV roster fills out.

The problem has been the lack of top 9/top 4 talent the last few years, and that is both due to Hextall's drafting and bad acquisitions by CF. It takes a lot longer to fill those spots, you can find marginal players for the bottom of the roster later in the draft, but you rarely hit top guys there.

Replacing Atkinson with Michkov is a major upgrade.
IF Couts and Drysdale are healthy, that's another major upgrade.
But they also need Frost, Foerster and Brink to take a step up.
Hopefully Luchanko can replace Laughton next season at 3C.

One thing that has been ignored is how off the charts good Cates was at LW when he returned last season in the second half:
CF 56.33%, xGF 63.56%, HDCF 64.49%, pp/60: 1.68
CFrel +5.10, xGF +13.91, HDCFrel +13.37

He's not skilled enough for center other than a shut-down checking line, but at LW he's close to elite.
