Sanheim, Drysdale, Bonk, Attard, Sotheran, Mills.
Unfortunately Grans and Samson haven't shown enough improvement to be considered prospects.

You don't need to pay $5M for Risto and block young prospects if you can find a buyer.
But he's good enough you don't spend assets to move him or buy him out.

A lot of making moves is opportunistic, if someone had offered a 2nd for Seeler, he'd probably be gone, but a late 3rd, well, he has more value mentoring someone like Drysdale. A late 2nd has far more trade value, say in the draft, than a late 3rd.

Same with Risto, he's a solid piece, if Drysdale doesn't work out, Risto might move up to 2RHD and Attard to 3RHD. But if at the TDL someone wants a big RHD with term, nice knowing ya.
Why do you continue to mention guys that have no shot or are years away if they ever make it?

I just ride the Risto contract out. No buyout, He really isn't blocking anyone at the moment. It is clear they do not see Attard/Ginning as NHL everyday players.

If you can trade him without taking a bad contract back or without retention, then God bless. Or say a mid rd pick fine. He has zero playoff experience, does that matter at all? Again no team wants a 3rd pair making over 5 million for 2 pls years. Contending teams are looking to save at every turn. Not waste money.

I do not believe that about Seeler. Could have sworn it was said they got offered a 2nd somewhere. Will you ever accept that they just like him a lot? Same with Laughton. When did Seeler all of a sudden become this NHL great mentor? 3 years ago he was in the AHL. Now a great mentor. You can find a mentor who you don't need to sign for 4 years.

They had both Seeler and Walker on the block.

Walker got a late 1st by taking on 3rd pick money (Johansen, cap room has been discounted with the cap rising again) and giving a 5th, so basically high 2nd rd pick value.

Never heard any mention of someone offering a 2nd for Seeler.

jump out early while other teams are figuring out what works with their rosters.

then burnout/wearout by game 40 cuz the roster is shit..

rinse/repeat every godam year
First half, xGF 51.71% (12), HDCF 51.73% (13) (5x5 SVA)
Sh% 8.49 (31), Sv% 90.42 (13), (GA-xGA)/60 -0.13, all situations
PP xGF/60: 7.17 (24), PK xGA/60: 6.83 (4)
21-14-6, 48 points

Second half, xGF 52.88% (8), HDCF 54.85% (6) (5x5 SVA)
Sh% 7.58 (28), Sv% 87.63% (32) (GA-xGA)/60 +0.67, all situations
PP xGF/60: 6.75 (28), PK xGA/60: 7.87 (14)
17-19-5 39 points

So much for "burnout/wearout." They were a better team in the second half despite Couts and Farabee wearing down, Walker traded, Risto injured, Drysdale playing hurt.

The PK slipped to the middle of the pack, but what killed them was a goalie collapse.

Note that the goalie collapse had them on a 78 point pace, which would have still had them drafting #7-8. So it's unlikely without a similar collapse that they'll end up with less than 85-90 points.

Carter Hart carried this team for the first half of the year. Goaltending is going to be worse than it was last year. Ersson has proved he can't handle a big work load and Fedotov is a huge question mark. The games he did play in last year he was awful. There's no guarantee he will find the success he had in the KHL prior to his jettison to the artic tundra.

Lol.... Couturier "wearing out" in the second half. He played with a f***ing hernia that needed to be surgically repaired. Let that sink in. Everyone KNEW that Couturier needed surgery. They allowed him to play even though he was labouring through. And then Tortorella scratches him. Honestly, you can't make this shit up. The most dysfunctional franchise in the NHL. It's f***ing sad what this club has become.

It's usually the player's decision, based on a medical evaluation that says playing won't make it worse and it's a pain threshold thing. If the team had a chance at the POs, Couts wasn't going to sit unless he was forced to.

You can't order a player to get surgery.

It's very uncommon for a hockey player to stop playing mid season from the type of injury Couturier had and get surgery. One that today he called minor. Obviously it hurt his performance in the second half and Tortorella treated him in a really shitty manor, but it wasn't the type of injury that needed to end his season.

But you can decide that he's hurt enough to sit him for a longer period than one game and be honest with the player, team and fan base that this team wasn't making the playoffs so we are shutting him down because we rode the player too hard after not playing for such a long time.

Instead you scratch him one game make it out that he fought being scratched so the player is the bad guy only to have enough of the fan base revolt against the team brass because the fan base knew Coots was not used properly coming back from the layoff.

Yeah, one bag skate the morning of the first day of camp on September 19 really wears the team out by game 40.

It's a miracle of science Team USA beat Russia in 1980 after Herb Brooks bag-skated his players when they were already in the middle of their seasons.

See the usage of Coots ... it's not one bag skate. It's mishandling players after they had surgery and long layoffs of recovery from surgery and beating them into the ground rather than bringing them along correctly for their health

You can stop playing him for his own good. Nothing prevents that but a stupid and destructive tough-guy culture. All that time wearing himself down for nothing.

They were a PO team until about the last 11 games.
81 points with 11 games to play, only needed 91 point to make the playoffs last year.
Went 2-7-2 down the stretch.
Torts cut his minutes back the second half, last 16 games only played 13:20.

Bull shit, they were mathematically a playoff team not realistically.

Cutting minutes means nothing if you started playing him hard the first half of the year. He was already broke down by the time they cut the minutes.

This is strange, seems other HCs do something similar to the rope test start TC.

"It's a physical test but, even more, a mental test," said veteran defenseman Johnson, who did a similar test his first three seasons with the Colorado Avalanche under Jared Bednar.

Good news if true:

Sean Couturier, who is coming off core muscle surgery in the off-season, said his procedure was much more minor than other players with different types of core injuries. As with Johnson, Couturier stressed the mental challenge of the skate does above the physical aspects.

And they have the magic chef cooking for them:

Drysdale added 18 pounds of muscle over the summer, reporting to camp at 196 pounds. He is coming off core muscle surgery in the offseason. Drydale stayed in Voorhees all summer to rehab after his surgery and get ready for camp.
