Korchinski is rough defensively even in the AHL from games Ive seen. He's just not built to defend. He's slight, lacks physicality, not explosive but I think most detrimental is that he doesn't have that compete level in him. Can't count how many times Ive seen him swipe at the post/puck out of frustration after a goal against that he was responsible for.

He's an amazing passer. Like probably the best vision of any Hawks dman prospect Ive ever seen. I just don't know if that's going to be enough for him to become the top 2/3 guy we hoped for.

Difference is TLEH hasn't liked him since he was drafted. Same with Levshunov.
I liked him offensively in Seattle, thought there was a lot of upside, understood the pick. He was always a mess defensively. They f***ed his development by making him survive shifts at 19 in the NHL in a tank season.

Levshunov yeah I wasn’t a fan of him at 2. Still watch them and hope they turn out. I won’t be a Musto.

Part of me doesn't want to see him up until the Hawks can hire a competent coach.

But at this rate, we probably won't even see a replacement until the offseason and that's way too long from now.
It’ll be the deadline at the latest. Donato, Smith, Maroon and Hall will all be gone, gotta fill the lineup somehow.

If I were management, I’d put Nazar, Dach and Slaggert into the lineup. 20 games, show you belong in the NHL for next year. That way it’s not an audition in the preseason, and Davidson doesn’t have to sign more shitty vets.

Not saying they will do it but they can justify keeping him down all year. He's crushing it in the AHL and the current NHL roster is where joy goes to die.
Kid has had a PPG+ in damn near every year in every league since he was 14u. Let em keep eating in the A for a bit - but I'm optimistic about him as a Hawk.

That's pretty much where I'm at on those two. We really need both of them to make it and I hope they keep them in the AHL until they are ready. I think KK needs to get a lot stronger.

As good as Nazar has been there is still a lot of improvement for him. I’m fine with him playing down there more. He’s still learning what plays work and when to try certain things.
I,very selfishly, if it doesn’t affect his game long term, want to see him compete for a Calder next year. I forget the weird requirements too though as far as games played so I don’t know if it’s really possible. I think he has the talent.

Edit you can play 25 or less games total or less than 6 in two seasons. He’s only played 3 so he would be eligible if he gets 22 or less this year.

Its pretty strange how seemingly opposite the philosophy of the FO seems to be when it comes to drafting forwards vs defensemen.

Skating is a must for both, but many complain here that our forwards aren't high ceiling enough but are rather drafted more for their work ethic and intensity.

And then the D is the opposite, they're drafted for their eventual ceiling and not the heavy intensity and picture perfect character. They hope those will come along.

I actually think it's simply due to draft positioning. KK and Lev were top 10 picks, Rinzel a 3rd first rounder that we could use to hunt the project. The forward are much lower picks, so they care more heavily for the tools and floor to get surefire NHL players.

I wonder how the opposite would look, getting top 10 forward picks maybes they'd be more projects, and 2nd/3rd rounder D more intense but lower ceiling picks?

It's an interesting thing how it's turning out so far, but I totally get the logic.

If Mayhew Brutal ;he put in3 goaosvtoday..Mwthinks Hawksxwouldblijevthat kind of brutal..

Plus how did they give Kk first star when he only got 1 goal and Mayhew gets only 2nd star for 3 goals? HEAD SCRATCHER.
.NOTE KK got his goal from activation in deep taking it to the net...he did that for goals in junior too BUT he scores so little from distance...Lev in contrast fires wristers in or on net from distance...So safe predict Lev gonna beat goalies a lot more than KK can...Kk's shot is probably below average for offensive dmen..still love to see activation talking it to the net.. better than staying back conservatively if you are hopingbto score...especially if you have no long distance shot.

Levshunov looks similar to me how he did in college. Great transition defender, takes a ton of risks, soo inconsistent shift to shift. Has these moments where you’re like.. what are you doing??
Is it just the WTF moments that have you concerned or is it more than that?

It’s just the inconsistency in his game. It LOOKS like he just gets disengaged from the game. He’s big and big guys always look bad when it goes wrong but it just seems like his intensity is off and on.

I still think he’s going to be a good player but it’s just a different world taking him at 2. He’s hopefully a stud. Love to be wrong.

Ive openly criticized the pick but these past couple of games you can see the raw athleticism that Lev brings to the table. He frequently out muscles these grown men and if he's able to take them on this way at 19 and he keeps developing he could very well be a freak by like 25. He just looks like this pitbull-like ball of strength and power out there.

I also saw him let go of a bomb of a slapshot for the first time like ever 2 games ago that frankly I didnt even know he had in him.

I think what's going to make or break his ability to become a top pairing D is truly engagment and motor, and also continued physical development because it is possible that he's an early bloomer. I still think that a career like Seth Jones is probably the average of the most likely outcomes, but he certainly has the upside to be more
