Thorpe has a goal & an assist so far tonight. Vancouver leads 2-1 after 1 over Kamloops.

Thorpe tied his goal total from last season (23), and passed his points total (he's at 45 vs 44 last year). He only played 51 games last season, though. He's playing his 55th game this season.
Only took him 1 night to pass that goal total as he notched #24 last night in an OT loss to Kelowna (who were actually who they also played on Friday in a home-and-home)

24 goals is a new career high for him. The Giants are also back in action right now against the Wenatchee Wild. It's a little more than half way through the 1st period and scoreless.

Any discernable improvement in skating from October to now ?

Any discernable improvement in skating from October to now ?

I'm not sure I'm qualified to make judgements on that. I've seen the massive improvements since he debuted with the Giants a couple of years ago (when he looked like a big, gangly baby giraffe who I thought had no pro future because he seemed so ungainly), but it's harder for me to pick up the smaller difference between where he was to start this year and whatever marginal improvements he would've made during the season because it's not like he's evolving into an all-world skater.

That said, regardless of whether or not his skill has improved I do think that his confidence in his skating is better. He's trying to make more moves to get around defenders or attempting (and at times succeeding) to go wideon a defender before cutting back to the middle of the ice and going strong to the net with authority.

It doesn't always work, but I appreciate that he's willing to do it and that it does at least work sometimes.

EDIT: Probably no more as-they-happen updates from the Giants game tonight as they're getting crushed 4-0 just barely into the 2nd. I stepped out of the room for like 15 minutes near the end of the 1st intermission and missed 3 goals against. So I'm switching to watching San Jose/Calgary instead. and I think I made the right call because Celebrini just scored

Tonight's Giants game ended up 6-2 Wenatchee. Thorpe was a -1 for the game with no points or PIM. I did stop watching when it was 4-0 so I have no idea how he played for the bulk of the game.

The Giants are back on Wednesday, continuing a Washington State road trip against the very dangerous Spokane Chiefs and their combo of Berkley Catton and Andrew Cristall. Then it's Friday in Tri-City and Saturday in Everett (featuring 15-year-old exceptional player Landon Dupont. He's a treat to watch) before they're home a week from tonight to face Wenatchee again.
