2024-25 Prospect Thread

Felt like WMU absolutely took over for the final 30 minutes. Clearly the better overall team.

That BU has a fairly young squad become a bit evident too. And Yegorov didn't have the night he had against Penn State.

WMU's coach Ferschweiler is on his way to bigger things now. Watching all three of their recent games, I gotta say that they were always better at the little things.

Organized club.

Not a whole lot of names there in comparison with other programs.

He’s had a couple great defensive plays, can he be an early NYI tenure Clutterbuck or are we expecting a little more out of him?
(I have no idea how to gauge these prospects)

Don't see Bednarik as a Clutterbuck.

Looking more like a classic 2-way 3rd line center.

And that's been the projection since his draft year with the USNTDP.

Bulldogs are Just absolutely loaded offensively. I wanted Lardis so bad in his draft year. Can’t believe he fell to the 3rd round.

Oshawa in a 2-0 series hole.

Looks like Gidlöf has been loaned by Leksand to Djurgarden for their finals series in the HockeyAllsvenskan. The winner will move up to the SHL.

Big gig, should he see any playing time.

And yes, there are those there wondering why this is even allowed, as none of Djurgarden's goalies are injured.

Yeah, they had a bunch of big, strong north-south 22+ y/o forwards who posed a real problem for BU's young defense. And Cole Hutson, who they wouldn't have had a chance without, had a bit of a spiral of poor decision making combined with fatigue. It was one of those games that got out of hand because of BU's attempt to come back- no shame to BU or their effort.

Actually thought Eiserman had a very good, engaged game. His defensive decision making still needs work, but that's all about repetition. He's so recognizable out there because his anticipation is so exaggerated. One aspect of his game that I liked is how gritty he is in faceoff scrums from the wing.

Former prospect info:
Alex Ljungkrantz had a contract with Färjestad this season. He was forward 13/14 for just about the entire season and went 4-1-5. He then got loaned out to Karlskoga in the 2nd league and racked up 6 points in 8 games before contributing 4 more in 12 playoff games.

I had to think of him while watching the recent game against the Rangers cause in that wild covid draft where we were all like "Who's that?" when he was selected, I had been almost certain that Brett Berard would be a typical Lamoriello target at that spot. He was small but constantly being chalked up as a talented, relentlessly working Parise type. And he was headed to Providence. At the time, I would have bet he'd be the guy the Isles would take.

And if it wasn't them, I thought it'd be Sean Farrell, another smaller US player with skills and a motor. Was headed to Harvard.

Well, anyway, it was weird seeing Berard put in two against us and reminded me of those times.

Yep, that Ljungkrantz pick. A kid that no pundits had in the top 225.

And our staff grab him with their first of only 5 picks.

My measuring stick on Eiserman is that he learned from having his minutes cut back in the World Juniors in December. He matured. In spotlight games at the end of the season he was noticeable for the right reasons.

Looking forward to watching him continue to mature at BU next year.

The London Knights have opened up the 2nd round of the playoffs with 6-3 and 7-2 wins over Erie.

Jesse Nurmi somehow has 0 points, 7 PMs, and a -1 in those two games.

Awesome!

For those who may not have it on their radar, Nurmi has already signed his ELC and is scheduled to be in Bridgeport next season.

Disappointing prospect have to say. So far!

Veilleux and Muskegon starting up USHL playoffs tonight. Only guy in action. Cornell bound too so another NCAA team to watch next year

Long shot guy but for a 6th or 7th rounder it’s nice to have a guy at least playing well compared to the usual crash outs of hockey altogether or minimal impact on their respective teams

When the pick was made (and I was actually at this draft), I was fine with it. Nurmi was a kid I had been familiar with and was seen as one of the 7-10 best Finnish prospects that year and a likely top 100 pick. As such, just fine.

I figured particularly Kautonen must know what he's doing (as opposed to the later pick of the unranked, overage Good Bogg).

Admittedly, I was looking at who was still available before the pick was made and found myself hoping they'd grab one of Aram Minnetian, Carter Southeran, or a Cam Allen, who was dropping at the time (had been for most the season after a fantastic rookie year in the OHL during his DY-1). All are Dmen.

Ironically, Nurmi and Allen are now teammates on London's juggernaut.

And Allen has 2-2-4 and +8 in the 7 playoff games thus far.

Also interesting when thinking about Kautonen's read on Finns is that winger Tuomas Uronen entered that season looking like one of the top 3-5 Finns whatsoever after a strong showing at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, but had a mild to poor winter. He dropped considerably, with some publications only having him in the HM section. He then ended up going late in the 7th round to Vegas.

Born 12 days after Nurmi, he too played OHL hockey this year - and put up 90 points. And another 6 in 6 PO games.

PS) While we're at it, Good Bogg spent the bulk of this season in Sweden's 3rd league, where he put up 4 points and a -3 rating after having 0 points and a -7 in 15 2nd league games. He's now 21. On the ice, there's been absolutely no indication of this particular player having ever given any reason whatsoever to having been selected. And I don't recall ever hearing the Islanders talk about or report on him in any capacity.

Mind you, he wasn't to be found in any draft guides. He was an overager who was off the map. Granted, he did have an interesting DY-1 including a U18 Worlds appearance.

Is Cal Ritchie the best prospect we’ve acquired this century?

I can’t think of a time we acquired a prospect of this level.

Not that he’s top five in the league but even when we were sellers it was mostly for picks.

The answer might be Kenny Jonsson
