2024-25 Prospect Thread

In the OHLs coaches poll, Ritchie was voted l Best play maker and best Stickhandler in the Eastern Conference.

Side note- Jake O’Brien who is draft eligible and in our range for first round is a guy I really like. He was voted smartest player and 2nd behind Ritchie in both best Playmaker and stick handler.

Goal and assist last night brings Xavier Veilleux to 40 points in 58 games

Not sure what’s up with Dmitri Gamzin but ever since he signed that new contract with CSKA he hasn’t played with them or their junior team. Just riding bench down there

He's playing in the VHL playoffs (the Russian 2nd league).

His last performance was yesterday. It was his 3rd game in this young month.

But true, he hasn't seen KHL action for a while now.

Interesting, but not the first time Flashscore has let me down especially with VHL stats lol. Says he’s been backing up the other guy on the Zvedza team

2 assists for Ritchie. Oshawa wins series 4-2 and moves on.

Ritchie 1-7-8 in 6 games

Meanwhile, Nurmi's London Knights swept their first round opponent, scoring 27 goals in the process.

Nurmi had all of 2 assists in the series, one of which was a bit of a phantom assist if you ask me.

Nice play by Ritchie on first goal. Throwing the shoulder to cause the player to cough up the puck and quickly sliding it to his teammate in one motion. I feel like his forecheck doesn't get talked about or maybe it does

I watched some of the Oshawa game last night. What popped out at me are three things.
- Ritchie is quite the bow-legged skater and it impairs his ability to generate speed.
- He was entrusted with a number of late game face-offs. He appeared to be pretty sound with a tried and true technique. Solid, even if he didn't win them all.
- He passes very quickly. Meaning, he doesn't hold onto the puck too long. He gets it and releases it, often without really looking. And he incorporates a lot of tap passes. That'll prolly be very beneficial at the NHL level.

Watched portions of the game as well. He seems to have a really good understanding of where his teammates are on the ice. That’s one of the reasons why he probably gets rid of the puck quickly. He also seems to have a really good awareness on the ice when he makes passes where he can’t really see where the player is. Turgeon had this ability. I’m not comparing Ritchie to Turgeon just his vision is really good. Turgeon obviously had a much better wrist shot and was a better skater.

So basically we got another passer on a team that needs scoring...

Oh boy please get this team goal scorers. I really wish this team can find its version of Guentzel or Point or Hutson

In reading some Ovi tributes this weekend I saw an article about some of his attributes that help his scoring totals. One that jumped out at me is his ability to take an imperfect pass and get off a great shot. Wobbly, a little ahead, a little behind, he adjusts and gets off a laser. I mention this because this is something I see a bit in Eiserman and that really impresses me. Not saying he'll be getting 900 goals, but it's a very positive attribute.

BTW, one thing I didn't see stated is that Ovi's strength allows him to hold his hands closer together than most when he shoots. I'm no physicist, but I'm pretty sure having his fulcrum hand higher creates more power in his wrist/snap shots.

He's got 23 shots on goal, including 7 shots on goal in their 3-1 loss when Oshawa outshot Brampton 47-23 (Brampton goalie was first star). So I wouldn't go crazy over this.

Are you serious? This site would die without going crazy!

  • Yianni: Ian, if you're gonna be in this family, I get you some earplugs because the Portokalos women, if they're not nagging someone... THEY DIE!

This is where we're hoping Eiserman and perhaps Finley can step in.

Should be another one or two added to the organization this summer.
