There's a few scenarios that could happen. One is they don't plan on re-signing him and as Lunatik said, give us a free trial to decide if we'll throw a 7th for him or something. Another option is they don't have room on their AHL team, but don't want him in the ECHL, and they ask a team like the Wranglers "hey you guys are kind of short on players, we have someone we think could use time in the AHL, but don't have space, if you want to use him you can"
maybe even a combination of both

Wranglers lose again to the Canucks in Abbotsford, this time getting shutout 1-0. Thought Calgary was the better team, just can't get anything to go in. Both goalies were good, Ignatjew started. Barrie left with an injury. Canucks scored on a PP jam play.

The key players for the Wranglers are all very young for the AHL so ultimately it's probably good for them to go through frustrating stretches. Morton and Kerins were trying but not a ton of gas. Thought all of Bru, Kuz, Solo were quality. Poirier a cpl dumb plays but did create a lot of chances. Frk, Stromgren, and Bell not good.

Think Ciona has improved from lastyear? Really hoping he can take that next step like he did the the Dub.

He was actually one of our best fwds tonight, but I would still say on the whole this season has been more of a modest improvement.

Skating is much better than it was last year, winning puck races and not falling behind the play as often. Setup his linemates several times, just missed on a cpl chances , getting more assertive with the puck. For a big tough kid would like to see him improve on the boards and get to the net more often.

AHL news - Honzek is playing again
CHL news - playoffs start next weekend, still some spots TBD, but looks like Battaglia will face off vs Mews

Wranglers split their 2 game set at the Dome with the Firebirds. Only caught a bit of the first one they won but in the second I thought Honzek was our best player. Involved in every zone and had a primary assist in each. Ciona also decent. Kerins had a nice pass to Frk but otherwise pretty quiet. Stromgren didn't get much done. Ignatjew was great in the W Friday.

Poirier at fault for two goals today with poor defense. Gallant two bad penalties. A rare poor game from Kuznetsov as well.

This young man has to build on something this offseason.
Another summer in the lab with Pospi.

Suniev ended Minnesota’s season with the OT winner. It was the second goal he scored in the game, he also potted one to spark the comeback that made OT possible. Even crazier, according to our director of scouting Ray Edward’s he’s up to 215 pounds now. Starting to think Gino he has a great chance at being a future 20 goal guy, with a chance for more. His size, skill, and shooting ability combo is going to be a lot of fun to watch in a Flames uniform.

Edit: I don’t think his offense translates as well, but here’s a super interesting comparison after the same amount of games in their sophomore season:

Suniev: 34 games, 20 goals, 38 points
Coronato: 34 games, 20 goals, 36 points

Sergeev and Penn State continued their stellar play beating top seeds, as they knocked off the top seed in their regional bracket in the University of Maine (#4 in pairwise) to start their NCAA tournament. Sergeev stopped 26 of 27 shots in a 5-1 win that wasn't particularly close.

With the amount of upsets over top seeds lately, Penn State might be hot enough to run through the tournament. Their next match is Sunday in a winnable game against UConn.

UMass down, Penn (Serg) plays Conn today
Saginaw is down 0-2 in their 1st rnd. If they are bumped early, could Parehk play for the Wranglers for the end of the season & playoffs?

Yes, if/when Saginaw is eliminated, Parekh can join the Wranglers and play, but he needs to be assigned to the Wranglers first, if he's assigned directly to the Flames, he wouldn't be eligible for the AHL playoffs IIRC

Kinda surprised Saginaw is down 2 games. Dont follow the league closely but everything I heard was that they should go to the 2nd round.

Apparently it's been close to 10 years since the 5 seed beat the 4 seed in round one according to the Saginaw PBP guy. I don't remember if he specified in that conference or across the entire OHL. Saginaw is really short staffed right now. They had 3 top 9 forwards (one top 6) out and one of their better bottom 6 players was injured in game one. They'll get at least one back in game 3 as he was serving a suspension.

The bigger issue however is the goaltending (as you can probably guess by the scores) Papineau and Oke have similar numbers IIRC but they're miles apart in quality. Oke is a good OHL goalie, he was lights out in their playoff run last year. His numbers kind of suck because he plays behind a really loose system and when he's not on he'll get shelled. Typically though, he's a steady presence who will make a few big saves and keep them in the game. Papineau on the other hand just doesn't provide that safety net. I kind of thought he turned a corner towards the end of the season because he was awful early on but seemed to level out after Oke's injury and even had some really good games. Thus far, his playoffs have been miserable. In game 1 it's hard to really pin any of the goals on him, they were good chances, at the same time, you want your goalie to save SOME of those good chances. If Oke was in net Erie likely still scores 4-5 but I'm taking the under on 8. In game 2 there was probably 4 goals he wants back. Impossible to win that game, it gave me flashbacks to Brian Elliot in 2017.

Edit: Forgot to mention Erie is missing a top 6 guy and Matthew Schaefer too though.

It REALLY doesn’t help too that with how much of a one line team Saginaw is, they give their trio of Misa, Chernyshov, and Parekh free reign to do whatever it takes to carry their offense and Eerie punished it pretty hard the first 2 games. Excluding Eeries powerplay goals, Chernyshov has stood on the ice for 10 out of 13 of Eeries goals, Misa 9, and Parekh a relatively light but still not great 6. Saginaw isn’t going anywhere with Misa being a -7 and Chernyshov a -8 through 2 games (Parekh is still a not great -3).

I think they were expected to win a rnd, but many had said that they were just a 1 line team.
Pretty much this, Saginaw lost a lot of depth last year as most of their players graduated. All of their offense is run almost entirely through 3 players; Misa, Parekh, and Chernyshov. Last year they had Beck, Haight, Dionicio, and Bloom to provide more scoring

Sergeev made 42 saves in a 3-2 overtime win.

UConn will face BU in the Frozen Four semi finals.
Suniev wasn’t as lucky, his NCAA season finished yesterday with him going out with an unfortunate bang. Got called for boarding, then 50 seconds after the penalty expired got called for boarding again that was upgraded to a 5 and a game checking from behind call.

Haven’t heard any news on that from yet, but after the season he just had you’d have to think the Flames are trying to currently get a deal done there.

We knew about the elimination, but the 2 boarding calls are new news for me. Thanks for the info... and yeah, I'm hoping we see Suniev signed soon
