Barkey ending up as the best NHLer out of this group would be funny.Jett is pointless in 7 of his last 10 games.
I'd be curious to know if any other orgs have seen lack luster stats from their "top" prospects this season.
Jett is only scoring 9% better per game than last year and if you factor in Guelph scores more than they did last year, his production is basically flat.
Bonk is scoring much less than last year.
Gill is scoring less than last year.
Powell is under PPG in the OHL as a D+2.
Pautov scoring dipped.
Barkey is scoring at the same rate.
Southern dipped.
Mann is scoring less somehow.
Kaplan.
They aren't even getting the natural older player scores more improvements.

Which is why I kind of dismissed the age argument for Luchanko and I've been pro drafting relatively younger players for over a decade. A lot of the advantage of drafting younger players is the upside through natural physical maturation. Jett was already there. If they factored in his age with his physical maturity, they essentially double counted. That's not to say an elite athlete can't improve his advantage, but you can't count on them holding that gap between the rest.
If he was immensely productive and athletically gifted that's one thing. When his "elite" physical tools don't translate into on-ice dominance, that's where you get into uh-oh territory.

I was shitting on that one too. I said last summer, you can’t just say, “Ooo summer birthday oooo.” You need to tell me why the 6-9 months of extra development will be important (and it often is!). No one could. He has mediocre skill in a maxed out body. The good news is Buium has also worrisomely flatlined in production.
He’s more skilled than Luchanko. That’s why I went back and forth in the poll. I just worry he’s a textbook tweener, like our own Pelletier. No one can say with certainty how these flatter athletic profiles project. Barkey must overperform below the surface, and he must have tangible production quickly.
What a scary bad pool.

well, he was already kind of at the limit of what was possible so harder not to flat-line!
Last year was 4th best P/GP for a teenage Dman in NCAA this century... this year is 5th best...

Can't wait to see Laughtchenko in a Flyers Jersey again at the end of the season. Why let his development stagnate in Guelph when you can get that same kind of stagnation right here in Philly?

Washington will be interesting to watch going forward. They got a handful of guys shooting up really noticeably right now in the prospect pool. Granted they took advantage of a market inefficiency with Hutson & Cristall.

The elder Protas is shooting a nice 23% this year. He’s got pretty solid underlying numbers so he’s not completely hollow but he’s not going to shoot like that going forward. But fortunately Washington locked him up long term before this year to a reasonable cap hit.
