2024/25 Oilers Prospect Thread

I'm really interested to see how Beau Akey's game translates when he turns pro next year. He's a really quiet prospect who could be a dark horse to make the Oilers in short order.

His game is really tidy defensively. Great gaps, a good stick and foot speed that really stands out. I dont think he'll be a big point getter, but his passing is solid.
It’s too bad he missed almost an entire year with the injury, I think he would’ve pushed for a spot this year if he had been healthy. I’m with you though, he plays a pro style that should translate really well. He reminds me a lot of TJ Brodie and could be the perfect type of player to pair with Nurse.

Sad to see Zach Laing's news about Jervantie. I missed when he reported this.

LOL even more at Tyler Wright and Ken Holland. Drafted a bust in Bourgault whom gets traded for another disappointment player who's off to the Euro leagues.

Great drafting shown by the Holland regime. Utter dog shit.

It turns out Munzenberger now has the most value lol

It's too bad we couldn't get Cossa. I believe that's who Holland wanted to draft

I remember seeing awhile ago that Paul Coffey who also coached Wyatt Johnston for 4 years was upset with the Oilers when they didn't draft him. Dallas ended up consulting Coffey about Wyatt before drafting him. Us? Traded down just to get a bust in Bourgault. Absolutely pathetic from Tyler Wright who's drafting resume is as good as Dustin Schwartz being a goalie coach.

The Oilers organization needs to dig into why a guy like Borgault busted. As much as it’s fair to complain about passing on Wallstedt, the fact of the matter is Borgault was picked exactly around where he should’ve been(final ranking was #20 on McKenzie’s list, picked #22), and he had a prolific junior career putting up 1.75ppg in his final season. Guys coming out like that should be able to turn into NHLers so the fact that he(and so many others) seem to hit a wall the second they enter the pro system makes me think they should be reevaluating how they approach things in the AHL.

Could it have to do with Colin Chaulk? Beats me, really.
Regardless, Tyler Wright's drafting history here has been utter shit. Any organization in the NHL hiring him after what he did here and Detroit would be stupid also.

That draft was messed up because it was the Covid draft.

Vermont's season is over and guys have started signing pro deals. It'll be interesting to see if anything happens with Munzenberger and Maatta in the near future.

Bako could use them with all the injuries they've got.

Im hoping Munzenberger turns into something not just for the Oilers sake but because the underdog Germans are going to be fun to cheer for in the olympics, but they’re a few D short of a Dodecahedron

Are any of the guys who need to sign before we lose them like Munzenberger, Mazura, Maata, Copponi etc worth signing to play in the AHL?

I assume hardly any chance of Berezhin coming over?

Munzenberger has an interesting skill set so they should sign him. Copponi is also one I’d sign.

Wasn't Holland super high on Seider as well considering he just recently left the team that eventually drafted Seider? Looks like Yzerman forced him to settle on another player twice lmao. Obviously Broberg is far better than having to settle on Bourgault.

He’s not an Oilers prospect so why are you posting this in this thread?

I do think Savoie will be ready to join the Oilers next year.

Frederic/Podkolzin - Draisaitl - Savoie

Could Savoie be a long-term solution on RW next to Drai?

I think Savoie is better suited next to Drai than with McDavid becaue of physical presence balance of the lineup.

Jonsson named goalie of the year in the Allsvenskan.

So BIK KARLSKOGA have won a round in the playoffs. To be clear I haven't watched any of the games, just filling you in on the results.

I have never really followed Hockey Allsvenskan, it will be interesting to see if Karlskoga can advance to SHL.

They were 2nd seed taking on 8th seed Oskarshamn. Jonsson played the first game and finished with a 6-2 win and a .909 sv%. BIK went to their veteran goalie for game two and lost 2-3 in OT, same for game three lost 2-3 in OT. I don't know why exactly but they stuck with the vet in net and pulled out the series with back to back 2-1 OT wins and a 3-2 win to go 4-2 in the series. Shots heavily favoured Karlskoga, the Oskarskamn goalie was probably the best in the series. I don't know why they didn't go back to Jonsson but it paid off.

I can't find playoffs stats, but it should be:
Jonsson GP 1 W 1 L 0 GA 2 SV% .909
Volden GP 5 W 3 L 2 GA 10 SV% .913

It appears the coach has trust in the older goalie, it will be interesting to see how much Jonsson plays next round.

The silver lining, Jonsson is undefeated once again. 1-0 in the playoffs this year.
