Scherzer would be a strong 3-4. But we've got Berrios who is a strong three, bassist is a 4, Francis we don't know could be anything and then obviously gauss should be a legit one excellent 2.

If we could somehow get cease that'd be nasty. Upset we missed out on Walker Buehler because he'd be pretty sweet too

Heyman says it is early and no deal is close so anyone can jump in but it appears Alonso's market is down to the Jays and Mets and the Mets said they would pivot last week but they remain in.

They also don't have many guys under contract for 2026 as I understand it. I still hope they keep both Bo and Vladdy. They certainly have the money for it.
Yep 2026 clears a bit for sure but 2027 is basically like a clean slate. Some people are upset at the Santander signing but somebody has to play for this team lol. Like we don’t have a bunch of kids knocking on the door.

Alonso is plan B for the Mets. Or so I read on X earlier today

Hypothetically let’s say Atkins stays on board I would expect the Jays to be very aggressive during the winter and trade deadlines in the next couple of years. This team needs to keep spending, they need to keep Vlad, but they have the chance to completely change the direction of the team. Just think… if Shatkins were willing to give Soto 700 million and with the payroll plummeting in the next 2 years, imagine the runway this management group have in free agency going forward especially if they are open to spending near 300 million on the roster

I think it is a negotiation tactic and they are still in. Vietos can play 3B, Winkler can DH with Siri/Marte/Acuna in CF, Soto in LF and Nimmo in RF. Leaves Alonso at 1B and Baty to come in on the bench.

I hope not.. Alonso would make this batting order so much better

i agree, i hope so too. Alonso would be an excellent fit, and you lost your 2nd pick already, might as well go after more qualified free agents.

Springer - CF (R)
Bichette - SS (R)
Guerrero Jr. - 3B (R)
Santander - LF (S)
Alonso - 1B (R)
Profar - DH (S)
Gimenez - 2B (L)
Kirk - C (R)
Varsho - CF (L) or Loperfido

Did they mention what the Mets' plan A was? I heard they called about Vlad.

Pete would be our 2nd best hitter, I think you bat him 3rd after Vlad. At this point Springer probably bats 8 or 9.

They could be trying to bluff Alonso… I highly highly doubt Atkins moves Vladdy especially when he just signed Santander and trying to convince Scherzer to sign on. Going all out this year, raising the payroll to unchartered territory just to turn around and trade Vladdy would be weird asf

Rays #1, Red Sox #3, Bal #6, NYY #8, Jays #23

Not ideal.
When it comes to the official prospect ranking, here's an easy question that tells you what I think of them... When was the last time both the Red Sox and the Yankess were below 10?

Because it seems to me like every couple of years the Yankees get to pull the Jesus Montaro scam on another unexpected team...

The rumour was Mets called about Vlad and the Jays said no.

But my question is, if you heard it mentioned on Twitter that Alonso was the Mets' backup plan, did that person mention what their plan A was?

100% Yankees prospects get overhyped. I don't think that's the case with Boston though, they've developed some pretty good prospects in recent years.

Honestly, I don't even think it makes any sense to add both Alonso and Profar. Obviously it wouldn't happen even if it did make sense, but still...

agreed but one could wish.

i think Santander hits behind Vlad because he is a switch hitter. I think they give Springer another shot at lead off, finished well in the 2nd half.

Im not sure it matters tbh, both Alonso and Santa have roughly even splits against RH/LH, but the former has hit notably better against both sides. He's just way too good of a hitter to bat 5th.

But this talk is premature - let's get that horse in the barn before we figure out how to ride her.

91 wRC+ with a sub-.300 OBP in the second half. I don't really see any positive signs from Springer's 2024 that would justify another shot.
