Blue Jays Discussion: 2024-25 Off-season: The free agent watch begins (and sometimes old baseball radio broadcasts)

I’m not trolling anyone, but is it encouraging that for all the mistakes attributed to the FO (I’m using those words because I’m not that invested in the list or have as strong an opinion, I just follow/support the team regardless ) that the team still made the playoffs a few years and aren’t looking far off now?
In a sense it’s kinda crazy.

What’s also encouraging is that Rogers seems willing to let them spend like the big market club we are…finally!

Given the significant increase in ticket prices, they really need to put an entertaining product on the field and I for one don’t care if they buy their way there.

Yeah, look at the Royals (or Tigers) a year ago today... there's no way those teams looked better poised to contend in 2024 than the Jays do today.

Granted, the Jays don't get to play nearly as many games against the White Sox, but still... baseball is weird like that.

Given he was projected to get 4/80, 5/70 is actually a really good deal. And if he’s still performing well they get the opportunity to extend it to 6/84.

Hmmm, I don’t really like them dropping their own drafted and developed relievers while holding onto the waiver claims….first Danner now Eisert. Bottom of the 40 man and all, so not a huge deal, but you’d think they’d want to give their own guys more of a crack as a rule.

A lot of flexibility in the payroll after 2026. We got like 8-9 guys signed so we got a ton of future money to spend. This is why I have no problem with the Santander signing and hopefully an Alonso signing. Somebody has to play for this team going forward

Vladdy goes to 3B

Both seem like obvious choices, especially when you know vlad likes 3rd best and you dont have anyone else to put there, also vlads arm is wasted a bit at first.

Still think you need profar too but maybe clement / wagner are close to just as good, idk tbh.

Jays have around 100 million on the books in 2026 and it reaches down to Pittsburgh Pirates territory of 76 million in 2027 so like I said Jays have a ton of future money to spend. A Alonso signing would be pretty damn sweet right about now

What do you guys like about Profar? Career year last year, but he's 32 and the 3 years prior to that he averaged below .700 OPS (cumulatively). If you can get him cheap, sure, but he'll likely be looking to cash in coming off that career year.

Meanwhile, Alonso's 2 years younger and coming off a down year looks like a great buy-low opportunity. At his best, he's an offensive superstar.

Alonso - 80 at 1B, 80 at DH
Vlad - 80 at 1B, 40 at 3B, 40 at DH
Clement - 120 at 3B

Obviously injuries will happen and guys will get off days, but something like that. Most of the rest of the DH time goes to Santander/Springer. Wagner pretty much starts whenever a regular infielder gets a day off and then is the first one to get more playing time when someone is hurt.

This is what I have been saying about adding Alonso or any other 1B. Vladdy doesn’t need to play that many games at 3rd to make it work.
If he surprises and plays great there he can play more but you can get away with around 40 games.
