Dodgers winning at everything. Meanwhile Jays being led by the joke that is Shatkins. Sad times in Jays land. Can someone remind me how long Shatkins has been here and how many playoff wins we have? Do they have a plan to build a winner? It's getting embarrassing.

The Dodgers are currently everyone’s first choice but they can only field one team at a time.

Hopefully we get another couple of bats in here, and maybe we get lucky and spend some of our IFA bonus money on a kid who turns into our next controllable asset.

According to Heyman we were in on him.

And according to Bob Nightingale (yikes) the Red Sox offered more years AND a higher AAV.
I doubt the Jays were anywhere close to what he ended up getting. That contract makes sense for a team where Scott can be the one piece that pushes them over the top or that can spend whatever they want on whatever they want. The Jays don't fit either of those. They have too many other bigger needs.

The Jays could still package Straw and a prospect to Oakland or Miami to get out of his contract (from Cbt pov).
I'm not sure why nobody entertain the idea that maybe Atkins likes Straw and made the trade because he wanted to acquire Straw and the international bonus signing pool space was just a bonus just in case. There should not be any doubt at this point that Atkins thinks the problem of this team is runs allowed. Most of the moves he made in the last 2 years were made to improve team defense and pitching. The moves he made to improve the offense were all plan Z as if the offense did not really need a plan A, B or even C. I think he just loves Straw personally. He wont trade him he's part of the plan for 2025. Jays needed an OF anyway and he got it. People gives too much credit to Atkins and they try to find a logic behind his moves. I think the team is mostly set for 2025. Maybe he'll acquire a middling starting pitcher who was injured last season and has to settle for the Jays but i don't expect anymore than this personally. Atkins believes in this team and he'll commit to it ... well outside of Vlad obviously.

I said exactly this. It's too obvious.

When the jays move on from atkins does anyone think Rogers will be gun shy to spend money and be more conservative with the next GM? A lot of wasted money over the last few years.

Where are the Dodgers going to play everyone? Gosh it seems like they have way too many players.

Most likely, then they will also have to navigate less budget with guys like Santander having wayy more term than he should get bogging down our flexibility.

No, I’m not. But they went after the 3 most high profile players and struck out. It sucks. But to sit here and talk shit about them is ridiculous. I’d rather they try and failed than not try at all. People are only upset because social media spews their garbage. Social media ruins everything whether you want to believe it or not.
The management needs to prioritize and focus on targets. Not throw contracts at every top FA out there hoping to bring one in.

They are not the best looking dudes at the bar. The Dodgers will always go home with the pretty girl and Atkins goes home to an empty house. Again.

It all he wanted was the bonus pool money why didn’t he wait till Sasaki committed to signing?
You haven’t answered that question yet.

Do I think they see Straw as the best option as a starter this season? No but do I think they like the player and see him as a great fall back option? Absolutely.
He is exactly the kind of player they love. Varsho, KK, Gimenez, Chapman…. They love D first players with suspect hitting abilities.
When everyone said they over committed to run prevention over hitting ability they doubled down by trading Horwitz for Gimenez.
Gimenez and Varsho are silver sluggers compared to Straw. He might be the single weakest hitting player in MLBif he makes the team.

Listening to Mike Wilner this morning and he said the Straw transaction alone is a fireable offense. He said notice the Dodgers after the player announced his intentions acquired international spending money. Not before. Threw away $9 million yet goes to arb with Vladdy last year over 1 million. And lost of course.

Management is horrible, was before this horrible trade and worse now.

But now we are into not just bad management. Laughing stock material.

A part of me feels there is an inside joke with these reporters that for every free agent that's signing, they're reporting the Blue Jays were in on that guy.
