Blue Jays Discussion: 2024-25 Off-season: The free agent watch begins (and sometimes old baseball radio broadcasts)

Lmao and you think they know what they’re doing by going for every free agent they realistically have no shot of getting? Come on man, we’re the laughing stock of the league.
I expect them to do their job and try to sign players. The only reason people are upset is because of social media. People who have nothing to do with their time sit here and eat this shit up and when things don't go their way they complain about it.

That wasn't all in though.

The amount that they could offer didn't change with the trade.
Well, sure it increased their pool amount, all of which they could offer to Sasaki, no?
Unless you mean they coulda got more pool money to get up to their max 10.

No people are mad because they aren’t doing their jobs. We really wouldn’t care about what is said on social media if we had had playoff success and smart management.
We are pissed because we see the writing on the wall with our 2 best players and our best pitcher walking away at the end of the season yet this management group has spent 115.5M on elite defenders who can’t hit this off season.
Even though our strength this season was defence and our weaknesses was hitting and bullpen.

I mean that they could offer the money before making a trade (like LA did).
So Sasaki has announced he'll go to the Dodgers. This is ridiculous - ridiculous how inept our management is, and also how impotent the so called competitive controls are in mlb. Why don't they just crown the Dodgers as champs now, and all the players can spend valuable time this summer honing their golf games. Sure, in baseball, injuries happen, blah blah blah, but seriously, who'd bet their own $ on anyone but the Dodgers taking the Worls Series this year, again.

What an absolute clown show.

They were obviously never getting Sasaki but taking on that Straw contract with no assurances is just stunningly incompetent.

I wonder how many fans are just going to check out of MLB with what LA is doing. My interest hasn’t been lower in a long, long time.

Guy took significantly less from the Dodgers to play there is such a let down. It wasn’t about to money for him. It’s about where the teams are. Why would he want to play for a team with loads of uncertainty which is a direct result of this management team?

I’ll give these guys credit for wanting to do the right thing and working hard but they just don’t have IT.

This is all I can think of now when I hear Atkins name

I’m still not inclined to jump off the cliff.
Straw trade isn’t great, but as a bench piece you get premium D and good wheels. What would you pay for that in FA? A mil or two? The rest of the aav is buying the right to spend more on IFA’s who’ll augment the system possibly.
Made a good run at a good player.
Most fans wanted an improved bullpen, a couple bats and resolution on Vlad.
First objective achieved, but could tweak still. Second, the realistic bats are still in play, so tbd. And there’s ongoing discussions with Vlad, so tbd.

Toronto Blue Jays

At this point, I feel bad for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Last year, it was Shohei Ohtani (falsely) being on a flight to Toronto. This year, it was acquiring Myles Straw and $2 million in international cap space from the Cleveland Guardians, signaling to the fan base - and even executives in the Sasaki bidding - that the right-hander could be headed to the Blue Jays.

Instead, they were once again the bridesmaid and not the bride. It’s incredibly frustrating for a team that is desperate to compete and even more desperate to retain Vladimir Guerrero Jr. long term.

So where do the Jays go now? The team has been active in the free-agent market, with one name of interest being Anthony Santander.
He’s one of the best pure power hitters available, has extensive experience playing in the American League East, and would complement Vlad Jr. and others in the lineup very well.

That said: the Blue Jays should not have acquired Straw and international cap space if they did not have assurances from Sasaki that he was coming to Toronto. The move reeks of desperation and a lack of plan by the front office, and they should answer for it sooner than later.

There are not. That statement was corrected to will talk again.

The Sasaki signing marks the beginning of the end. Bo Bichette is a goner and Vladdy might be a goner as well. Might be time to blow it all up and restart again...

In my personal opinion, what they should have done is kept the 2021 roster and improved their bullpen. The bats that year were great and it was only the bullpen that were holding us back. Now, the bats are shit. Can't win games without any offense, no matter how good our pitching is.

This isn't the place for calm and rational thought. The sky is falling damn it!
