the stuff about free agents caring about farm systems sounds silly. All that tells me is sports writers will print anything someone affiliated with a team has to say even if they are just saying whatever pops into their head and put no thought into it at all

Is Pivetta even worth the draft pick compensation?
I'm not particularly interested in Pivetta even without the compensation. If they sign multiple QO guys so the compensation is essentially a 3rd or 4th or something, then I guess it's not that bad.

Still, I would prefer that they just sign a mediocre back-of-the-rotation guy like Heaney or Gibson instead.

I think they can afford to just plug the holes in the rotation. They need to actually spend to fix the offense and the pen.

He’s not worth the 2nd rounder and allocation money, but at the right price he’s probably worth the 3rd rounder it would cost if he was the 2nd qualified player we signed.

At this point we need quality players. It’s clear they aren’t firing Ross and starting a rebuild, so they need to make several additions. Time will tell if they have the $ and are aggressive enough to make that happen.

Some in the media are pushing for teams to sign players, they're not neutral parties. Quite often, these players are not worth the investment. If prices were lower, it would be more reasonable.

It makes sense to me. If I'm a free agent committing to several seasons with a new franchise, I'm looking at all indicators for where that franchise is heading. The Jays having a poor farm system would be one of those indicators.

The farm system is part of it but Vladdy and Bo not being signed is a big red flag for teams. Furthermore, after this upcoming season, a rebuild is very likely.

Yeah right now it’s looking like we are losing our 2 best hitters and our best pitcher. With little in the system to replace them.
If they can’t get Vlad and Bo signed the team should be blown up but they won’t even do that because they want to remain competitive which they won’t without major additions.

Things are looking pretty bleak going forward and somehow there are still a few defenders of this management team.

Hector Gomez reporting the Jays talks with Jose Quintana are intensifying.

All I can say is he’s a lefty and isn’t attached to a comp pick. :/

I hate our management team
Because they're interested in Jose Quintana?

I think a relatively cheap veteran for the back of the rotation is the best way to go. Quintana isn't great, but it's fine.

Like last year, this is all moot if they don't make the moves they need to make by spending to improve the offense/bullpen, but Quintana is fine.

I don’t know what people are expecting this offseason. If the Jays end up with something like Santander, Quintana, Gimenez García, and Sandlin, that’s still a solid haul. Sure, I'd love to see them land Burnes, Soto, or Sasaki, but those guys were never realistically in play.

Yawn…Santander would realistically hit 25-30 HR’s… Quintana is a 5th starter. You say you don’t know what people were expecting, dude I’m expecting our management group to know WTF they’re doing. Can’t even lock up a core piece like Vladdy when he specifically says he has spring training as a deadline. There’s no point in watching this season tbh

I agree they completely botched the Vlad situation. I also want Atkins gone but not because he signs a 5th starter or potentially Santander. The reality is the off-season is going to script. None of the top players were coming here and we were always going to be players in the second-tier market.

Early on, I figured signing more than one of the premium FAs would be tough just given supply and demand. As fun as the hope was, more than one wasn’t realistic.
Still time to do that, and fill around it.
Santander was and has been my best fit of the FA’s, so still hopeful there.
Adding with non-qualified guys makes sense and the rotation could still use a lefty, so Quintana’s okay in that sense.
The Vlad sitch is a bad look for sure.
