Boston turning an off-season from whiffing on Soto into essentially rebuilding their rotation in the span of a day or two would be a big loss for us.

That team isn't that far away from returning to relevance. Putting Burnes and Crochet at the top of that rotation alongside Houck gives them arguably the best rotation in the division. Makes the Jays job of getting back to the playoffs even harder.

Still don't really get why the Giants are in on him though. Though I suppose that's been the feeling for almost every move they've made post 2021.

Yeah, I don't really get it. They never break anything and there's no evidence they're doing anything other than speculating. Why are some people (many of the ones who see them as nothing but shills) suddenly seeing them as real sources of information on the inner workings of the team?
Don’t think they have sources and really it doesn’t matter. Soto didn’t sign here and it was never really likely he would. I don’t blame management for that, but man they suck.

I wouldn’t trust Arenado as the big bat addition at this point in his career, nor would I want to pay out the remaining 3 years of his contract. If he bounces back, great, but if this is the start of his decline it could get ugly.

Helsley would make our bullpen a lefty away from looking pretty damn good though. I’m

My intention wasn’t necessarily to acquire him as a “big bat” but more akin to Gimenez where you plug the hole with a ~3 win guy and boost the pen with a shutdown arm. The Gimenez trade (plus Yimi signing) in my eyes meant that whatever talks they previously had with the Cards broke down.

It's the same thing in hockey where OFD get paid more than DFD but I'd much rather have a DFD. I'm sure the same people would rather have a Ben Revere type than Matt Chapman...

Management deserves blame for walking the 2 home grown stars to FA instead of signing them long term years ago but this was a good trade.
I don’t my the trade in a vacuum, but it bizarre giving the makeup of our club and the cash available. Building the team still matters.

[Slusser] “…as other starters came off the board and Burnes’ already high projected price tag looked to go higher, chatter about San Francisco has dipped and the Blue Jays have moved into the perceived frontrunner spot.”

Weird to see Davidi and BNS' report that the Jays biggest moves might have happened yesterday then see from other prominent insiders that Burnes, Teo, Santander, Joc, and others are still on the table.

Makes me wonder if its a game. FO telling local guys like Davidi and BNS they are out to help with leverage in talks. And the agents telling the national insiders they are still in to drive up the price.

What's Schneider doing at the winter meetings? is it normal for a manager to be there?

Anyone else find it funny that after those hundreds of millions spent on a dev complex all we have managed to do is have players stagnate when they come to Toronto and the only prospects we develop are overage players who generally can't field

Managers always go alongside the executives/owners. No different than the coaches usually showing up at the NFL owners meeting when they happen.

...and yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he's also carrying Ross's luggage as people said.
