Winnipeg
Futures trades with Houston, win-now deals with Oakland.
Me when the Jays get yet another A's all-star for the price of a half eaten ham sandwich and a half empty bottle of Coke;

I get the jays are the only Canadian team in baseball. But it blows my mind on how bad the reporting is. You really think the Jays will sign Soto and then turn around and let Vladdy walk?

I've seen articles where they think we pay our players in Canadian dollars as well.

Boyd gets 2 yrs $29M from the Cubs. Arguably depth starters are getting PAID in this market. Might as well try to land one of the big fish as it’s much better value.

Agreed. That is a lot of money for guy who is 34 and pitched 200 innings combine in the last 4 seasons.

His WAR the last 5 seasons;
-0.6
1.4
0.4
-0.1
0.7

Montas getting $34M over 2 years but at least he is a lot younger and has potential. I wonder what guys like Bieber, Verlander and Max get.

I feel like we see a deal or two like this every offseason where a team buys into an excellent <50 inning sample and hopes it turns into cheap upside.

[Martino] There is a widespread belief among bidders that Toronto will come in with the highest offer [for Soto]. There is also widespread skepticism that Soto would go to Toronto, but a source pushed back on that, saying that if a team is involved in the final bidding, Soto is willing to play there

The way I interpret this is not that this means the Jays could have a chance here, but that the Jays could easily come in with the highest offer for Soto (before Soto's true preferred destination is given a chance to price match like Ohtani did with the Dodgers).

What I still find interesting about the Soto sweepstakes is, who between the Yankees and Red Sox are Soto's preferred destination?

I'm curious to what demands Soto is making.

Like if he's telling the Jays, yeah i'm interested but you have to sign a player like Fried and sign Vladdy to an extension.

Agreed. Someone will always beat the Jays offer or come close and if you are Soto the other legit suitors are better options. All of the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets and Red Sox are in bigger markets. The Dodgers are the best team. The Mets are in an easier division. The Red Sox have his friend and a great farm system with no real long term money committed. The Yankees just went to the WS with him.

Unless he loves Vladdy, Bo and Canada then why come here?

I don't trust him, but Heyman did say Soto will most likely sign with the team that gives him the biggest offer!
