2024-25 NHLPA Player Poll

Crosby taking 3 categories at the age of 37. Not bad.
him winning the best faceoff man is simply nuts, and not at all accurate. Voters probably had no idea who to vote for. Give me Tavares, Giroux, Michael McLeod, Jeff Carter any day.

What was wrong with the system they used for several decades where you get 2 points if you win, and zero points if you lose.

Why should any team get a point for losing in extra time?
If it's 5on5 sure. But if you're playing a gimmick after the regular game has ended the team that comes out on the wrong end of the gimmick shouldn't get shafted for how they played in the actual game of hockey.

I did my own poll among my NHL contacts

Best Overall Goalie: Hutson
Best Overall Forward: Hutson
Best Overall Defenseman: Hutson
Most Complete Player: Hutson
Best Playmaker: Hutson
Best Faceoff Man: Hutson
Smartest Overall Player: Hutson
Best Overall Skater: Hutson
Best Ice: Hutson

Surprised the players didn't find a way to vote for Carey Price again.

This one isn't particularly egregious but one thing I've learned from years and years of seeing these polls is that the players themselves are far more guilty of doing reputation voting than any fan or writer.

Still neither had Draisaitl. Hes a good playmaker though, but the league knows who is the MVP in EDM.
Of course Mcdavid is the MVP of Edmonton in any year to year basis but this season Draisaitl clearly has had a better season and been the oilers MVP of this season just like 19/20. Of the 9 seasons of Mcdavid as an oiler he’s been the teams MVP 7/9 times Draisaitl 2/9. Both seasons Mcdavid was battling injuries

"Clearly" I disagree. McDavid factors in every point scored by Draisitil by being on the ice with him or taking the tougher matchups when hes on the bench for all but 9 games and 16 points (6 of which were against non playoff teams).

Nah, another thing that should be added is if the game time runs out with one team on the PP, the game doesn't officially end until that PP expires. No more taking penalties in the dying seconds just because you only have to kill off 20 seconds of a PP
If that happens, teams down a goal will take penalties to try to extend the game indefinitely.

Most complete player is -22 this season. Players are totally out of touch.

Oh, right, Mulletman.

McDavid is obviously the better player overall, nobody's debating that. It's more the idea of him as a passenger that annoys a lot of Oilers fans.

I take exception to Kucherov best playmaker over McDavid. I understand that Kucherov's best skill is playmaking while McDavid is better at everything else, but that doesn't mean Kucherov is the better playmaker.

Assist/game
McDavid 1.11
Kucherov 1.09

A1 vs A2 ratio
McDavid 2.01
Kucherov 1.96

Percentage of assists from powerplay:
McDavid 45%
Kucherov 67%

Percentage of assists from empty nets
McDavid 6%
Kucherov 14.5%

You know that Draisaitl has more points than McDavid, right? So wouldn't Draisaitl factor into more of McDavid's points than vice versa?

McDavid factoring into Draisaitl's production while he's on the bench is a whole new level of mental gymnastics.

I get that you hate Draisaitl but try to at least be remotely objective. Otherwise, you'll come off as a troll and baiting is against site rules.

Boom, love when big boy stats are brought to the party!

Kind of silly to call the shootout "a gimmick." Next year it will be 20 years since the shootout was added.

It's not a gimmick. It's part of the NHL.

Ironically, did you know that calling someone a troll is considered to be a troll itself. Mods here taught me that one which makes no sense.

I replied to your other post but you removed it or edited it or something.

Somersaults actually, but loathe was a bit strong. I think Draisaitl is a McDavid merchant, but one that is like Jagr to Lemieux, Messier to Gretzky, Rantanen to MacKinnon. I wont say Malkin to Crosby because they would have to actually play on separate lines for that to be accurate.

Drais is a phenomenal player, but I believe without McDavid he would "only" be a PPG 80-90 point player on a bubble playoff team. I think we will have a chance to see starting in 26-27.

Nope dump the loser point like Ferris said

I think that shows Kucherov is. The fact that he has nearly identical numbers without any of the physical gifts McDavid has is pretty incredible.

Messier and Gretzky played on seperate lines (and the former won Cups without the latter) and Jagr won scoring titles without Lemieux. I don't think they fit what you're going for here.
