Nah, we'll take another rangy/toolsy defenseman with our first pick or two and then take a bunch of gritty guys who project as middle 6 forwards with snarl. Throw in a mid-round goalie or two recommended by one of Marty's contacts, rinse and repeat.
I presume the draft board is pretty straightforward in the first couple of rounds. Hopefully they don’t trade all those second round picks at the deadline. They could really use a couple of center prospects if the board falls that way .

I'm on board with using those picks to replenish the cupboard that's essentially empty as it relates to centers.

Only thing that kinda sucks is that all 3 of those 2nds are late in the round. You can package 2 probably for maybe a late first or really early 2nd. I'm not sure if it's worth it. I'm sure there will still be some good talent to pick from or some players that fall. Teams are picking for position more so it seems than going BPA.

I think the answer is no but do we still hold the rights to Benjamin Baumgartner. Guys having a pretty good season in the Swiss league

It was already answered no, but I don't think it matters too, too much - if this is real, would be nice to bring him over to the AHL, but not a lot of people want to trade Bern for Utica.

Isn't that guy almost 30?

Maybe someday these Russians draftees will play in the US.

Not likely. Few are willing to work their way through the AHL when they can make substantially more playing in the KHL.

For rhe record he's only 23. The Avalanche hold his NHL rights but have yet to sign him.

I'd imagine he's more of a paper prospect though that can always change.

I was half joshing on his age.

Poking fun at how some on this board hype up these Russian prospects no one will ever see.

I mean, what? Firstly, the board is called "hockey's future". Secondly, we have no centers in the prospect list. Thirdly, he's playing in the KHL and playing well and to a style that fits an immediate need - 4C. Yes, there are questions about whether he wants to come here or not. But I'd rather have that option than a useless turd in the NHL that plays 3 minutes and still gets cratered and doesn't even fight that often.

It's not like hyping up Pierre Dagenais.

So because the board is called hockey's future we pump up a 23 year old 4th line KHL'r?

We don't even own his rights anymore.

Tell me you didn't read my post without saying you didn't read my post. Also tell me you don't know how the KHL/Russian transfer works without saying it directly.

I'm fully aware - we TRADED him for Kurtis MacDermid. His contract with the KHL ends at the end of THIS year, so this was the year he'd be coming over. He makes far more money - and develops far better - in the KHL instead of the AHL. It totally made sense for him to be there playing regular shifts in the 2nd best league in the world.

My point was valid - it was lamenting trading him for a useless asset (MacDermid) when he's legitimately exactly what we need and none of our other prospects (THIS VERY THREAD) in the pipeline fit that need.

Easy there. You aren’t wrong. Just note there will always be those of us sensitive to looking back. You don’t see me lamenting when NJ traded away Lovejoy for example.

Yeah, you're right -- that's fair. I mean, who would care that Sam St. Laurent blanked the Rangers and then was traded away? Nobody would ever even bring that up, not once, not even as an example.

After a bit of a hot run Bardakov has 1 goal in his last 10. He's still running hot in with a 14.7% shooting percentage. Last year he was at 7%. Year before he was at 8.8%. His decent numbers thus far this year are most likely a hot streak, not a guy developing an offensive game.

He's also at 45% in the face off circle. This alone keeps him off our 4th line.

But hey, lament away.

Sure, if we only care about scoring. If we care about someone who can grind and play tough minutes without hurting us, he seems like a propect that has value. We also have 0 prospects that are true centers.

But hey, keep digging to defend what was an unkind and off the cuff response without a lot of background (age 30, not ours, missing the point of the lamentation of the trade).
