2024-25 MLB off-season news and notes discussion thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
I don't see the Tampa Bay Rays making here in the area. Sternburg wants more public funds for a stadium. Kick rocks. Unless baseball adopts a cap...the sport is not sustainable long term. Fans are done with the haves and the have nots. There's no new fans growing up either. Millenials and Zs aren't watching. Major stoppage incoming

Stu is a welfare queen. The organization is forced to sell off any decent player because they cannot afford to keep them.
Baseball sucks. I hope it dies a horrible death. They have a real long term problem with their fans dying off and nobody to replace them.

Oh for sure...which is why I think a new owner who isn't a Peter Angelos clone, would probably be able to get Tampa back to being relevant. Honestly, what is needed is an actual baseball stadium where fans have an experience in and around the ballpark. The Trop just doesn't do that for anyone. And if Sternburg can't figure out that you have to give a little to get a little more...then I don't know what to tell him.

They are definitely headed for a work stoppage. the players have held far too much power since the 70s.
Owners own and players play. Time for more of a league balance. If not, I see contraction in baseball's future.

Honestly, I think they just have to make the luxury tax more punitive and it would eliminate the need for a Cap. Forfeiture of all international money would be a good punishment. Reduction of draft pool money is another. Losing your first round pick altogether or handing it to the team that finished behind you if they didn't, themselves, go over the luxury threshold. Just have to be more punitive with the penalties.

The only way I would vote for public funding of a new stadium is for a hard cap league wide...period. Otherwise...what are we doing here?
