Why did everybody suddenly decide to start penciling in Norris as a winger? I just started seeing this like 4 days ago.

Well, last year he missed all of training camp and the first three games, the assumption is he'll be ready for training camp this year, if he's not than you have a point, but if the surgery is successful and he's ready to go for training camp then last year's start isn't all that relevant.he is not going to come in a be an effective center at the start of the season
we saw that last year
it took him deep into the season to look comfortable and even then it was obvious he didnt have an offseason of training and lack of strength. He's missing another summerWell, last year he missed all of training camp and the first three games, the assumption is he'll be ready for training camp this year, if he's not than you have a point, but if the surgery is successful and he's ready to go for training camp then last year's start isn't all that relevant.

Ok? Other players have come off shoulder surgery and looked fine. What happened with Norris last year wasn't typical of how returns after shoulder surgery look, typically you are cleared to return to play 4 to 6 month, that year he wasn't ready after over 8 months, it seems pretty clear the surgery wasn't successful. So using last year as your baseline for expectations is assuming surgery won't be successfulit took him deep into the season to look comfortable and even then it was obvious he didnt have an offseason of training and lack of strength. If this surgery is a success, his return shouldn't be a mirror of last season. That doesn't mean he'll be exactly like he was before ever injuring the shoulder, just that last season is probably a worst case scenario.
We've seen what before? Not this, we saw a guy that wasn't ready right months after surgery last year, if we see that again Norris won't be ready until sometime in November, but that's not what expectations are right now, he is expected to be ready for camp. If he misses all off camp and still isn't ready for contact when the season starts, then you can say we've seen this before, and expect Norris to follow a similar path to last year, but that's expecting things to go about as poorly as they can.we have seen this before. He missed multiple development years and is missing this summer to gain strength. He was getting pushed around a lot last year. He may come in an look like an all star but I think most people doubt it with his history and until he has time to gain the strength required to be a good NHL center
Pinto looks solid so its not a surprise that people are putting him on the wing for an offseason lineup
I don't think camp will magically replace a couple full offseasons of building strength. It took deep into the season last year to look comfortable on the iceWe've seen what before? If Ullmark plays like Ullmark we will be in the hunt till the very endWe are not making it
agree to disagreeWhat a strawman, nobody said camp will replace a couple offseason a of adding strength, but he's not going to be any weaker than he was starting last season if his shoulder actually heals properly and he's ready for camp.
The point is that he missed camp because his shoulder was still a problem, missing camp means it hadn't healed properly and he was still playing catch-up. He was never confident in his shoulder, likely because there was still a problem, if the surgery goes as expected, he should go into camp confident it will hold up. That's a huge difference.
It's nonsensical to assume a similar time frame to last year when last year was clearly atypical of a recovery from this type of surgery. He will of course have a process to go through, but if it look like last year that's an indication things have gone very poorly.
FixedIf Ullmark plays like Ullmark we will be in the hunt till the very end of December
