Laval Rocket: 2024-25 Laval Rocket Thread

Not really and you know stat watching is often not the best way to analyze anyway. I'm gonna trust Vincent's judgement on this
So you think it’s possible for a goalie to have played well despite an .865 sv%? Did he have a 200 shot game?

Damn he must be a perfect coach. Why isn’t he in the NHL?
Really? Are you really at the point you need to invent a statement he never made in order to discredit Vincent and promote your own opinion?

They are both excellent goalies at the AHL level, he gave the guy that got them there a chance to bounce back, he was mediocre and is now going back to Fowler. I don't get what's so controversial here.

It’s just funny when you present facts, the only thing some people can revert to when they have nothing to counter with (and it’s the same with criticism of Marty), is that we should just trust their decisions because they are coaches and we are not.

So just shutdown the hockey message board everyone. Can’t criticize a coaching decision since we are not coaches. Can’t debate draft picks because we are not scouts. Our opinions don’t matter, so what’s the point of discussion.

As far as I can tell his opinion just differs from yours, and to an extent I would agree in that I trust that the guy who just won coach of the year and lead Laval to 1st in the league knows how to do his job.

But the 'facts' aren't only on your side of the argument either, Primeau going 21-2-2 with a 1.96 GAA and .927% is also a fact. Despite his extreme talent and great first few games, Fowler is still a rookie pro and that's a fact.

It's not shocking in the slightest that Vincent went back to Primeau for game 1 regardless of what Fowler did. I watched game 3 versus Rochester and Primeau was not great, but Laval was also terrible and completely flat. I assume he went back to Primeau because he wanted to give him the chance to bounce back, and because he has played and beat Rochester multiple times this year. He didn't prove he deserves to start over Fowler in game 2, and now he's not as Vincent has gone back to Fowler.

I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill over this personally, and I have no objections with any of Vincent's decisions so far.

Great and the regular season argument holds no weight when you see exactly what Hellebuyck does year in and year out. A goalie that has shown time and time again that he folds under the slightest of pressure. But whatever, this conversation is going in circles.

I don't see how Primeau and Hellebuyck are comparable. We are talking about Primeau at an AHL level, and he has always been solid there. He went on a lengthy playoff run with the Rocket just a few years ago where by no means did he 'fold under the slightest of pressure'. You're still just making up random arguments to try to support your point, but I agree, whatever.

Oh a solid AHL goalie. Well damn. That will surely help the Montreal Canadiens in the future. Let’s play him instead of the guy we drafted to be our franchise goalie.

So this aged well and quickly lol. Vincent watches these guys every day, he knows the stakes are higher than anything Fowler has faced before and he wants to break him in slowly and not put extra pressure on him. If he flames out, people will accuse them of rushing him. Fowler will hopefully learn from tonight. He's got enough pressure without suddenly making him the starter over a popular incumbent. It's like some of you don't understand human dynamics. Fowler needs time to learn at this level, no need to put undue pressure on him. Maybe the coaches see something we don't - eg what weaknesses does he have that teams might exploit. That's why I think we need to defer to the pros who work with Fowler and Primeau within reason. It's not just black and white numbers.

Well, there you go. A natural opportunity to give Primeau the net back presented itself.

Almost like you could have just run with the Fowler hot hand until a game like this happened and easily given Primeau the net to see if he could go on a similar run.

Never was a reason to artificially insert Primeau into the net. Fowler was never going to go undefeated, and if he did, would anyone have cared Primeau didn't get the net back?

Just galaxy braining for the sake of galaxy braining.

Or maybe Vincent knows his players and didn't want to put a rookie in for game 1 against a tougher team on the road? You guys still gonna die on this hill I see. There is a reasonable counter argument even if you refuse to acknowledge it. This isn't throw the ball at the 1 yard line on the last play of the SB when you have Marshawn Lynch in your backfield.
