Laval Rocket: 2024-25 Laval Rocket Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Curious guys............Laval are having a great year...........How many guys on the roster will be NHL players?

I am thinking there are currently 6-7 guys who could either get themselves to the Habs lineup or get traded to another club and make the jump with a different team.

Will: Beck, Reinbacher, Roy
Should: Mesar, Xhekaj, Engstrom
Could: Tuch, Davidson, Farrell, RHP, Primeau
Maybe: Trudeau, Kidney
Ehh: Simoneau

Rest are vets or AHL guys.
Roy and even Beck I might put under should. Beck really hasn’t done much in a while now. Include Mailloux there.
Swap Davidson and Mesar.
Trudeau should be in the Could category
RHP and Kidney. Never!

Lol poor Mailloux, didn't even make the ehhhhh tier.
That's what happens when you do a list in the bus.

Roy could be in "should", not going to argue much about it.

I don't know how can anyone believe Beck will not be a NHL player at this point. Probably not a top6 guy, but he has bottom6 C written all over him.

Still giving the benefit of doubt to Mesar, but could be dropped to "could", sure. I'm pretty much writing this year off and we'll see next year.

Davidson is right where he should be. He could be a bottom 6 guy, but he's not a safe bet either.

I don't see Trudeau being good enough at anything to be more than a tweener. Maybe he becomes a #7-8.

RHP did it before for a stretch. Of course, he's not going to have that kind of success if he makes it, but if he can go back to being a buzzsaw, he could make it as an energy player.

Kidney finally gained some weight, so I'm holding a smidge of hope.

I don’t know. Beck hasn’t done anything for quite a while now. He’s been fairly invisible for a long stretch. He had a great week or so a while back and everyone was calling for him to replace Evans this year. Then he quieted down, got a call up eventually, had a couple good shifts, and since going back down he hasn’t done much. I do like him, I just don’t want to pencil him in just yet. Honestly, Flojak has been more consistent. I also think Davidson gets over looked. He can score, he’s tenacious and can fight! He won the 2 that I saw him in this year pretty handily. One of the guys was 6’7” and Davidson humbled him.
To me, RHP had his 15 minutes of fame and he’s dropped off massively from there. He can’t even produce in the AHL anymore.

A few cold streches doesn't influence the rest of Beck's body of work to me.

I'm well aware of Davidson and I think he will make it, but I think there's still work to be done to get there.

As I said for RHP, he needs to go back to what he was pre-injuries, a buzzsaw. If he can't, he's done.

Ya I agree about RHP. The problem is, he’s had quite a few games since his crazy end of season with the Habs a couple years ago, and he hasn’t played with the same style since. I know there’s been injuries, but he’s played over 80 games (split between 2 leagues) and he’s scored 7 goals. As great as Laval has been, you’d think he’d have more.

I do agree. However, some injuries need more time to get back to normal even if you're healthy enough to play, which is why I still haven't crossed him out completely.

Either way, it's unlikely his career will continue with the Habs.

Good input!
Anything can happen.
Habs have lots of prospects to acquire some solid young veterans!
A prospect is never a sure thing.
Apart from Reinbacher and possibly Demidov, the others may never be difference makers in the NHL.
Hoping for Fowler to make it.

Interesting info shared by Renaud Lavoie (anything can happen) on TVA spare.

While discussing with Joshua Roy on his return to the NHL, he shared to Lavoie that the Rocket coaching staff (Daniel Jacob) is tracking player actions related to "grit", with the message being that you need to do more of this in order to make it to the NHL, in addition to talent/production.

-stick on puck
-do difficult actions (blocked shots, going net front, etc)
-effective hit/checks e.g. not just going through the motion but actually gaining an advantage
-compete with energy

Of course we can snark about the (lack of) grit displayed by the Habs but it's a good thing that these aspects are being tracked / fostered. Clearly a pro-level coaching staff in Laval this year, don't think anyone is missing JF Houle.

Well said, can't believe many fans on this board were mad at this hired.... he's the best coach in the ahl this season.

I didn't love a single thing he did when developing the talent in CBJ.

But he's a massive upgrade over JF Houle and I listened to him a few times and it seems like his approach in the AHL is vastly different than what he was doing in the NHL.

Few complaints from me this year. Happy to eat crow.

Oh you were definitely not the only one against this hired, it was at least half of the board.

Do you remember if he's under contract for next year as well?

Hage's teammate at Michigan signed to a PTO.

23 years old, 6'2" & 205 LB forward. Had 12 pts (2G, 10A) in 35 GP in his 4th NCAA season.

Good. There probably won’t be an influx of rookies next year, so if he does well, he can earn a contract. Depth and going into playoffs too!

Two year window from current AHL roster. (This opinion after watching 12-13 games.)

Rein, Beck, LilX, Roy, Mailman, Engstrom, Davidson.

There are a two players that if they were early 20s and/or 3 ft taller would have a shot...BarreBoulet, Dauphin.

Next year...I wish we get to see Hage and Fowler.

Demigod won't step on AHL ice.

That is TEN youngsters in a few years that will range from potential superstar to quality bottom 6. The team will be so young, we may need wet nurses...

It is confirmed Hage is going back to the NCAA, as he should.

I ALWAYS believe in pushing players to the next level. Hage has already shown he's top of the scoring, actually second is scoring, so putting another 10 goals in U of M nest year amounts to a hill of beans.

Bring him to the AHL and let him get use to a faster, harder hitting and more difficult level. He's got he physical size and mental fortitude to handle it. On top of that, despite my huge reservations about Vinny the Bright coaching, he needs to learn the 200 ft game as our future 2C.

Hage has Suzuki vibes without maybe the top offense vision. Maybe. We wont know until he's put into the next level.

I disagree. The NCAA gives him more time to train his body which is what he needs the most.

He also wasn't dominating, so another year definitely won't hurt.

Anyway, the decision is already made so it is what it is.

Time for some roster management, now that the playoff spot is secured. It might be smart to give a few top guys a little rest here and there, just to make sure the team is ready for a long run.
